How old were you? What made it so special?
Who went with? Kids go?
Do tell.

Four seasons Costa Rica

Sandals Royal Bahamian
Took a Rolls from the airport to the resort, champagne was waiting for us and we were having more drinks in short order. Every one of our dinners was arranged for us and we had a special treat at each restaurant. Having a butler was absolutely worth it and ordering room service at 2a is an incredible guilty pleasure.

Hands down, Destin. It is just beautiful. The local people there are just gorgeous and the 5 star restaurant and shooping venues are some of the best in the world.
Unbelievable nightlife scene for adults as well.
I haven't even began to talk about the beaches there. Just breathtaking!

I fancy the Destin area myself.

Went to Ireland last summer with my wife and 2 kids (11/10).
It was their first time abroad, we left the day after school ended and came back the Sunday before Memorial Day (8 nights). It was special because we all experienced something new together. The setting could not have been more beautiful- the scenery, the people, the adventures- it all came together for probably the most perfect week so far of my life on this earth.
I worry that future "major" vacations like this may always fall short of the bar that was set on this particular trip.

I'd just been furloughed. Didn't have any responsibilities. Just packed my camping gear and started driving.

By myself. Stopped to see a few friends along the way.
Went to Carlsbad Cavern. Ended up staying in Moab for a week. Went to Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands. Went from Moab to Denver since a couch was available there. Hiked/drank for a week or two.
Didn't have any responsibilities to worry about and was about as free as I'd ever been.

Give me a chance to explain myself before the heckling.
Went to destin a few years ago with my family and my childhood best friend and his family. Rented a place with a pool and boat slip. We kayaked into the bay, watched fireworks from the rental house, and the kids swam all day. Me and my friend got to catch up.
Not vacation, but worked in west Africa for a year and it was a really cool experience.

Growing up, me and my family would go on long road trip vacations out West. We would typically jump around a lot, moving from one spot to the next after a few days. We would typically be gone the entire summer.
But one summer we simply stayed in cabin on the Salmon River in Stanley, Idaho. We had been here plenty of times before, but only for a week, but this time we stayed here for 2 months.
We just lived in this tiny 1 room cabin (2 adults and 3 teenagers), fishing and hiking during the day and playing cards and other board games at night. There was no TV. This was before cell phones.
I still daydream about that summer. Waking up in the morning and walking out to the sounds of the river, catching a few trout for lunch. Me and my sister would hike up the mountain across the river to a rocky outcrop and takes naps/just hang out.
I can only hope I can give my kids that experience some day.

I love St John and the USVI/BVI all together, so does my wife and kids.
But, my favorites/most memorable have been Yosemite and RMNP - Estes Park. When i ask my wife and kids they say the same.

Senior Year of High School Spring Break. Went to Utila for a week. Survived on $200 for the entire time. Almost got stranded over night at the cays nearby. Ate tortillas every single day to save as much money as possible for the .50 cent beers all over the island at the time. Room had no ac but was really close to the water. First real time away from the parentals too. Just me, some cousins and their friends.
Have I been on "better" vacations since then? You bet. but the simplicity, snorkeling/scuba diving, and just livin I did that week is something that will never be topped in my lifetime.

Route 66 road-trip with my oldest daughter. No set plans, basically hitting roadside attractions.

Two come to mind:
The first was when my wife and I took all 3 kids to Disney before they were old enough to be in school. We went in early-December and it was awesome. I was totally against the trip since the youngest was only a year old and 3 kids >2 adults. I was wrong. Trip was awesome. We stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge and my son really loved that.
The second that comes to mind was our first family vacation to Hawaii. Our kids were aged 9, 11, and 13. We went with another family we are friends with that had kids similarly aged. We went to Oahu, Maui and Kauai. We were all in awe for the entire 12 days were were there.

Jamaica at an all inclusive resort after senior year of HS. It was all my friends from HS with another AL HS staying at the same resort for an entire week (we didn't know they were going). Had cool chaperones who left everyone alone but were vigilant enough to not let anyone get killed.
All the booze, bud, and pussy my 18 yr old self could handle. It was everyone's swan song before we all headed off in our own directions to grow up, but it was a hell of a send off. Really fun.
As an adult, Ireland to England to Spain over two weeks was pretty cool. Europe is a whole different kind of trip where you can have a blast and learn some cool history.

Spain and Portugal. It was incredible the food, the wine, and the history were hard to beat.

I second this. Went 3 years ago. Amazing country--waterfalls, geysers, beaches, mountains, glaciers, lagoons, volcanoes, caverns and a population of less than a half-million.

Favorite vacation: Montreal/surrounding areas
Age: 32
Went to visit a friend. It didn't get warmer than -10F the whole time we were there. My wife swore off ever moving to Montreal. The highlights were dog sledding and learning to ski. This was when I decided I had to move out of the South. 2 years later, we ended up moving to Idaho.
It was literally a life-changing vacation. You could find me on the slopes every weekend in the winter.
