CFB fandom is justified if:
A. You/family go/went to school there
B. Are from the state
C. Live or lived in the state
D. Married into it

If you do not meet at least one of the criteria, your take on your team is invalid to me. Change my mind. I encourage you.

Nothing worse than a die hard Crimson Tide fan that is born and raised in Missouri who has never been to AL, no family ties, didn’t go to school there. Nothing. These are the types of Cfb fans that give the sport a bad name.

A lot of Notre Dame fans have no ties and didn’t go to school there, however Notre Dame has thrived on having a national fan base for decades now with millions of fans coast to coast.

This is primarily a Southern thing.

Most of the country, fandom is alums or family.

It's not treated as their "pro team".

Mostly southeastern thing yes but true in the Midwest also.

Same rules for states like Louisiana or Georgia apply to Wisconsin or Michigan.

You don’t see a lot of your “rule breakers” in college fandom. I don’t know any OU fans who don’t have some connection with the school or state. Some of it is very loose but I give them a pass.

However it’s rampant in pro sports.

being a fan of ANYTHING is "justified" if it brings you happiness and enjoyment. Of course there are absolutely varying levels of fandom.

If that guy is entertained and brought joy by watching a team he picked simply beacus they were good, who's to say it's not "justified"? Now granted, I would look down on thsi person and am 100% a better and more "legitimate" fan than they are. But that's a differnet topic.

Why should some illiterate New Iberia baw get to root for LSU just because his mom was knocked up there?

I always stood on this

1. Your Alma mater.
2. Your parents Alma mater.
3. Your spouses/siblings Alma mater
4. Local university.

There are some explained. A lot of Catholics still cheer for Notre Dame. Media driven fanbases like 90’s Miami and 00’s usc.

I hate bandwagon fans. Family friend has a BIL that has an entire room in his house decorated in Bama. Wallpaper, paint, posters, helmets, jerseys. Houndstooth couch. He is not from Alabama, and has never set foot on campus.
