That's a shame. He was Spurrier's final OC and QB coach at UF.

The song is still burrowed in my brain. RIP

Stanford hiring him has got to be one of the most bizarre hires in modern history.

What was so bizarre about it? Remember that this was pre Harbaugh Stanford.

Thought he would be much older than 66. Sad to hear of him passing. RIP. Internet says he died from injuries suffered in a bicycling accident. The accident was back in March. Damn, that's awful.

"Teevens was injured in March when his bike was struck by a pickup truck in Florida. In updates about his condition, Kirsten Teevens had said her husband’s right leg was amputated after the accident and that he had also suffered spinal cord injuries. This summer she said they had moved to Boston to continue his rehabilitation and be closer to family and friends."

At UF from 99 to 01, then Stanford, then was at Dartmouth from 2005 till now as HC. He was a player at Dartmouth, QB, also lettered in hockey there, and was player of the year once. One of his kids graduated from UF.

Bike accident was in St. Augustine. I think Spurrier and some other coaches have vacation homes in that area.

"Dartmouth head football coach Eugene F. "Buddy" Teevens was critically injured in a bicycle accident Thursday night in St. Augustine, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Teevens, 66, was crossing at 6100 State Road A1A at around 8:40 p.m. when he was hit by a 40-year-old female traveling northbound in a pickup truck, FHP said.

Teevens did not have any illuminated lights on his bicycle and wasn’t in a crosswalk or designated crossing area, the report stated. It also noted he wasn’t wearing a helmet."

Got this info from two different sites and wiki.

RIP. He was a popular member of the UF staff, from what I remember, back in those Spurrier years.

He certainly was. Those Rex Grossman years were so fun to watch.

His highest HC experience was going 11-45 at Tulane

He succeeded Willingham, who had them in the top 20 and went to bowls often there. Willingham's predecessors did relatively well too. Stanford was just terrible under him and Walt Harris.

Florida and Spurrier weren't big on recruiting, so a guy like teevens likely had no or minimal connections to the entire West coast. Looking at his resume, he was never west of the Mississippi. Huge culture change as well.

The vast majority of the players who went 12-0 in 98 at Tulane were recruited by him, including Shaun King.

Details of his death.

I'll always remember "The Buddy System" and the players who he recruited who played so well for Tulane after they fired Buddy.

It took him a few years, but he finally figured out Louisiana recruiting. Good guy, good man. May he rest in peace.

My son has a friend nicknamed Buddy. I sing that jingle every time he comes over. Kid probably thinks I made it up myself.

Spurrier pulled in a lot of very highly ranked classes.
