Several people have floated this recently. Keep in mind the HoF does not only include players, but broadcasters have also been inducted along with owners, coaches, GMs etc.

I would say yes. He has a huge, instrumental role in making the NFL Draft the spectacle (which isn't necessarily a great thing) and money maker that it is today.

Absolutely. Literally created the 3 months of constant talking about the draft, and ultimately, the huge tv production that it’s become.

Without a doubt, yes.

I don't necessarily like or listen to him, but every single football fan knows the name "Mel Kiper". Dude has been very instrumental in the game.

Before he came along, they were doing like 20 round drafts in a Holiday Inn banquet hall filled with cigar smoke, and were drafting Kickers in Round 1.

The intense media focus on the draft has had a ripple effect throughout the entire game

Yes. He's part of football culture. Kiper is synonymous with the draft for a generation of fans. If we're measuring contributions to the game, he's been a part of taking the draft from a largely uninteresting administrative process to an off season multi month mega event that people look forward to.

Yup, the public scrutiny created a science to building teams through the draft.

Ehh...they did that twice before Keiper came along, and once quite a few years after he became an ESPN name.

That can't be denied. It's crazy how far a WR can shoot up a draft board after running one 40 yard sprint in spandex and no pads.

Its also forced teams to take scouting much, much more seriously, with a huge amount of scouts, analytics, testing, etc.

They can find guys at tiny schools and big schools, guys that underperformed but are athletic, etc etc.

It has made the game a lot better in a lot of ways.

Broadcasters receive the Pete Rozelle Award, so they don't get a bust like the others do. Madden won the Rozelle Award before he was actually inducted as a coach.

That said, Kiper should likely receive the award one day considering guys like Chris Berman and Tom Jackson have won it.

ETA: The Sabols are a special case. I highly doubt Kiper gets a bust like them.

I watched the draft on the NFL Network. Mel has lost his fastball and his hair. So that's a big no.

You don't have to work for a team to make the HOF. Kiper basically created the draft industry by himself and the NFL has made an unbelievable about of money as a result.

He absolutely deserves to be in.

Yes and it isn’t close. He is almost solely responsible for the nfl being a year long thing now.
