Will Coach O wanting a 4-3 so bad cost him His job?

It’s looking more and more clear this defense cannot stop these spread offenses, and our d-line isn’t dominant enough for our defense to be elite, Damone might be the worst defensive starter in the conference. Seems like the things needed for this defense to work isn’t there

Coach O's incompetence will cost him his job.

First was the power I formation and now it’s the 4-3 that will be the downfall of our last 2 coaches

I think it is a valid point, 4-3 is much more conservative, hard to find 4 stud DL that can rush pass and stop run. Need a big time MLB that can clean up and make tons of tackles.
Not the best defense for modern passing games, QB's the way they are trained in 7-7 know how to attack a 4-3 easier than 3-4. With 3-4, need a NT to ensure run stop but in terms of pass defense, you have 8 guys that can play in space, vs 7 in a 4-3 and your base 4 man pass rush attack has more flexibility, the 3 down DL and then the 1 of the 4 LB's that can come from multiple spots.
The OP's point is valid.

Yup. 3-4 gives a lot more flexibility. Don't know what the obsession was with going back to a 4-3 when our roster wasn't built for it.

That's the main point.
The roster was built perfectly for a 3-4.
You have to have elite ends to run a 4-3 right.

O let Apu Ika walk. That should tell you something.

I mean… would Damine or the safeties be better in a 3-4?

Well he played better in a 3-4 in 2019 than a 4-3 and it can cover up some deficiencies somewhat in personnel. You have more options to rush QB from multiple angles.

I have been on this point since CEO announced the decision after Aranda left. I kept convincing myself that it is ok because Bama runs a 4-3. However Bama has has a multitude of DL to plug in. However since that switch Bama has had some LB issues as well. He still has some good ones but no great ones.

Because O doesn’t understand the complexities involved in a 3-4 and wasn’t going to sit in meeting rooms to learn it.

Bama runs a 3-4, it is just one of their LB's is in the 245-250 range that can play like a hybrid, stand up OLB and get rush like a 4-3 DE.

The guy is just not smart. There’s a reason nobody else in the nation was going to hire him. TAF thought he was the guy for some reason. To be honest, was t it Ensminger that brought in Burrow and Brady?

It's not so much running one scheme or the other. What it did show was his terrible roster management. We had players for the 3-4. O wanted the focus to be on the d line. Now we have a bunch of pass rushers that aren't good for much else.

the front line has little to do with our coverage issues
what is going to cost O his job is what always was going to cost him the job: he's an idiot and a terrible HC

this is such a huge myth
in a 3-man front, 4 guys, min will be rushing. your edge guys aren't guys you want in coverage
the difference in a 3/4 man front is most seen in the rushing game, not the passing game, especially if you play an over front
this was used against the spread option by derek mason, who we could have hired. now it's all the rage in teh NFL, too, most notably from brandon staley. you can play this front with 4 DL as well

That is sort of a bunch set, so the alignment is dictated by formation. you still have 4 guys standing, 59 and 41 one or the other can pressure, the QB doesn't know which one, or both could drop in coverage, 59 can cover the TE, 41 can slide and cover the H back and 54 can come off the edge.
I disagree with you 100%.
