It’s not hard for us to pay even more to an assistant. The new TV contract offsets a lot of fat woodys bad contracts. So it’s not really making us stretch.

The first guy was certainly no idiot. He said you go after a good guy, and if you don’t get him, at least you made your competitor extend. Sure, LSU was probably going to give Denbrock a raise, but I’d bet my bottom dollar they are paying him more than that because A&M went after him big.

Smart move by A&M. They don’t “want to be LSU” any more than we want to be Notre Dame`. And if they wanted to emulate another program clearly it would be Alabama, not LSU.

There’s a budget. LSU isn’t laying any coach more than they can afford. It’s not a strain or they wouldn’t be doing it.

As far as emulating bama, yea you’d think that would be their path but don’t tell me Aggie boosters don’t have LSU penis envy.

They wanted Jimbo largely for optics bc we’d tried unsuccessfully to get him. It was seen as a steal from fsu and a screw you to us. If you don’t think so go back and read stuff from when they hired him. They made sure to point it out.

They have some weird perception that we are rivals of the highest order only second to UT. I know it’s one sided but it’s how they see us

A&M was never going to have a coaching search without trying to poach someone from LSU. They do it every single time.
On top of trying to get a good coach in a position of need for them, it’s also one of their pathetic power plays to try and prove their relevance. They want their presence felt just as much as they want said coach.
There’s plenty of really good offensive coordinators out there they had a realistic shot at getting without ever talking to Denbrock.

I’ll be glad when their petty and desperate behavior shifts back to their real daddy, UT.

At face value it sounds ridiculous.

That said, it’s possible that agent shenanigans are at play here. Maybe Denbrock’s agent tried to drum up some competition while negotiating Denbrock’s extension. Agents do this all the time. Doesn’t necessarily mean Denbrock himself had any interest in leaving.

Or maybe Liucci is full of shite. Just pointing out that it’s possible.

ATM was founded 20 years after LSU to basically create a Texas version of LSU. They’ve spent their entire time playing catch up to big brothers LSU and UT. Adding ATM to the SEC was a big mistake.
