Did we luck out with BK?

Looking back on the schools out West and how their HCs faired, some that we were in contention for?

We just endured the worst defense in program history and won 9 regular season games. Yes, I’m happy to have him.

At the end of the day, he’s 3-4 best coach in the league. He just needs to solidify coaching and competing for the big uglies on the d-line.

I'm not sure I'd call it lucking out. I feel like that would be reserved for a more unproven HC.
What we did get is someone who is building this program the right way, which we haven't had since Saban left. That will pay huge dividends down the road. Kelly will win at least 2 titles here and will have this program set up for the next HC to take over and have continued success. Just will have to make the right hire, which is obviously a hard task.

By this do you mean could our current situation be worse? Yes.
Is BK the sole reason we've been better than those other programs? Probably not.

Yes, he inherited a depleted football team in 22'. All he did was win an SEC West championship. Looking at the future it is bright. Next year LSU will be in the playoffs. So BK wins SEC West last year and a ten win season in the view this year. We are lucky to have a coach that knows the game very well. He has character and represents LSU well. I'm glad we have him as our coach. We are lucky to have CBK.

In the most down SEC in a long time.

Yes x 1000000.
I have no idea why people are dark on BK. Do people realize what he inherited and he still has two 9-3 seasons? He almost went 10-2 this year. LSU didn’t beat Bama for 9 straight years and he did it in his first season against a Heisman winner. Freeze’s season was a joke. Napier will be fired in 2025. Both lost against BK twice, including BK’s band-aided transfer happy 2022 team. aTm’s 2 choices were both 7-5 and they chose the one who did it in the ACC. Ask aTm or Florida if they’re still laughing about the BK hire.
shite, Mississippi State might become a tougher game for us than aTm or UF.

Maybe he lucked out by getting to come here ??

He lost one game this year that we had no business losing. He won at least two that we could have easily lost. Honestly, regardless of the competition in the league, I say we're ahead of the game. Let's see what moves he makes this off season to keep us in the hunt.

100%.
Look at the other candidates at the time he was hired:
Mel Tucker
Aranda
Lincoln Riley
Jimbo (lol was a pipe dream)
Stoops
Napier
Brent Venables
We got the undisputed best coach in Brian Kelly.

Just look at what's happening at Florida not only are they bad but they are undisciplined. You have players spitting like Triple H players slapping away coaches hands ignoring them. And now they basically have a lame duck head coach. If Billy had the success BK has had here over his first 2 years at Florida they be calling him one of the top 5 coaches in the country.

Really? The SEC will be undefeated in the playoffs this year. If Alabama gets in they will play Georgia for the championship.

Our fanbase can hold two concepts in our brains at once: (i) Kelly was absolutely the best possible hire at the time and best realistic coach LSU could have right now; and (ii) Kelly needs to make significant changes on defense and recruit significantly better to compete for the championships that he claims he's here to win.

I think he has done the best job up to this point. But if one of those other coaches ends up winning a national championship and BK does not, that obviously changes. At the end of the day, Brian Kelly winning a national championship will determine whether it was a successful hire or not.

We’ll find out now that Jayden is gone and the receivers. Also heard Perkins wants to transfer to a contender. So probably down a year or two!!

No.
At the time he was hired Kelly was firmly entrenched and having success at ND. In fact, ND had an outside shot of reaching the CFP for the 3rd time in 4 years when Kelly left. There was really no "luck" about it. I think, and he has suggested as much, Kelly wasn't looking to leave ND. However, he knew from past experience that even if he reached the CFP it was unlikely his ND team could compete with a Georgia, Alabama, etc. He just couldn't get quite enough players to compete with those programs due to the recruiting restrictions at ND. At 60 years old Kelly wasn't leaving ND unless it was to go to a place where he could be a legitimate NC contender. Enter LSU.
Over the last 30 years or so, only ONE school in the nation can say they've had three different HCs win national championships. Two of whom are FAR less respected than Kelly. Don't believe that? Then tell me why in a world as competitive as college football are two former NC winning coaches (Miles and Orgeron) unemployed with the best opportunity available to either of them being one of the worst power conference programs in the country in Kansas. The fact that LSU cold win two titles (play for a 3rd) with two HCs the college football marketplace generally perceives as bozos showed Kelly just how strong of a program/job this is. When the LSU job came open Kelly could recognize it was the best opportunity for him to win a NC. And an opportunity, with Kelly at 60 years old, was unlikely to present itself again in his career. So he pounced.
LSU wasn't "lucky". Kelly is here because the LSU program is strong enough to draw the interest of ANY college football coach looking to reach the pinnacle of success.
