The Memorial Stadium of the future, complete with modern amenities designed to improve the gameday experience for Husker fans for the next century, could soon become a reality.
The University of Nebraska unveiled plans for a $450 million renovation of the iconic college football venue on Thursday, featuring a ground-up rebuild of South Stadium, the installation of chair-back seats in East and West stadiums, and improvements made with accessibility for all fans in mind.

Nebraska Athletics Director Trev Alberts said that once it's finished, the renovation will embody a “holistic vision for the entire stadium” outlined by some 22,000-odd fans who provided feedback on their experience and laid the foundation for the department’s financial success in the years to come.

Putting chair backs in three sides of the stadium and widening aisles, installing handrails and other related amenities will improve comfort, Alberts said, but NU also anticipates that could result in a 10-12% capacity reduction.

quote:

Fans will be able to navigate 360 degrees of the stadium at ground level, and 270 degrees from an upper concourse, under the proposed renovation.

quote:

Throughout the stadium, concession upgrades will provide new menu options and added points of sale, while restrooms also will be modernized. Alberts said the goal is to provide amenities to fans and ease of use so they won’t feel like they’ll miss a significant portion of the game if they step out for a drink.

Must be nice for your school's athletics department to actual read their survey responses and give a damn about what fans have to say.

They're completely rebuilding the south side of the stadium with more restrooms/concessions, wide concourses, and more comfortable seating.

I have been to the stadium a few times. It is a nice stadium but you are definitely cramped together. Hardly anyone sits. Everyone stands for the entire game. Everyone stays until the end as well. These additions will make it more comfortable but like the article states, it will remove capacity. They will continue their sell out streak that has lasted 60+ years.

If they won a few games the game day experience would be much better.

Rearranging the chairs on the deck of the titanic isn't going to improve the voyage experience.

I dont know when but at some point I'm expecting LSU to do some kind of lower bowl and concourse rehab project. Expansion projects have basically maxed out and chasing capacity isn't the goal anymore. When was the last time anything was touched in the lower bowl? I'd expect some kind of project focusing on updating the quality of experience.

Get rid of all music and electronics except for the scoreboard we had in 1995. That's a quality experience.

I thought it was $350 mill, looks like they made out good. Saved $25 mill to add a hype girl.

Their fans deserve it. They have shown up despite being a shell for 20 years. Our fans look for any excuse to stay away.

I agree, but an excuse to stay away or not, our fans have continued to pour money into the program as well, regardless of the record differences. If anything LSU has been so successful, which brings in way more money than Nebraska, that the LSU fans deserve it just as much, if not more.

I was saying this during our last expansion. We need a reduction not expansion. With an increase in experience quality for the remaining seats. I would still have my season tickets but they are so watered down now and I never have trouble getting any that I want.
