Remember when Brian Kelly was a "bad fit" for LSU?

Josh Chatham, Roll 'Bama Roll/SB Nation:
quote:
Brian Kelly is going to be a spectacular disaster at LSU. LSU has swung and missed, and for that we are thankful. I’m not sure that Kelly knows what he’s getting into, competing with the cutthroat recruiting in the south. From where I sit, the SEC West got a little easier.
Zach Ragan, A to Z Sports/SI Media Network:
quote:
The more I see from Kelly, the more I think he's going to be an absolute disaster at LSU. I just don't think he's cut out for the SEC life. When the honeymoon is over, and Kelly is facing adversity, remember the words I wrote here. He's not a good fit at LSU. And this hire isn't going to work out the way many think it will.

There was a very significant part of the LSU Tiger Football Nation who at the time agreed that Kelly was the wrong choice.

the whole “bad fit” narrative was gucking bullshite.
people wanted us stuck with some moron like Les or O because we’re simple folks who appreciate characters not good football coaches.

That was before everyone knew how big of a pussy Lincoln Riley is.

Yep. What they failed to consider is that “outsiders” have typically done well here.

We're never going to get a better "fit" than O. And he crashed and burned.
Is Nick Saban a "good fit" at Alabama? Yes, because he wins. That's the key. Winning. No one gives a shite about whatever your accent is or if you fit in culturally as long as you win.

Orgeron may have been the best "fit" to ever coach at LSU. He won a NC...then allowed his Lafourche parish to fully manifest en route to returning LSU to a place it had not been in 20 years.
You know what "fits"? Winning.
That was always a stupid, lazy narrative. Kelly has won at every stop of his career. Perhaps the fanaticism of SEC fans would be a little something different for him. But football is football.

2 early to tell either way. 1 season is not enough to say whether he is or isn’t a great fit. Solid first season. Will have to revisit it in a couple of more years

People who arent primarily LSU fans enjoy LSU being an exciting sideshow. A clown coach is a good fit in their minds, not a serious ball coach like BK. LSU fans knew right away he would be great here. Other football fans would rather see LSU with a "quirky" coach like Miles and O.

Saban wasn't a "fit" at LSU nor Bama.
But he's a winner and demands excellence. Kelly is still early into this but seems to be similar & has a plan.

Now do the rant alters that post on this very forum.
Nameless and faceless people come in and still trash his 14th ranked, 8 out of top ten Louisiana players recruiting class.
Look, I was banned for two years bashing miles. I understand the catastrophe syndrome. I was a sufferer of it.
This guy gets it.

We are laughing, but it's only been one season. It was a good one, and has us on an upward trajectory. Everything looks great, and looking at what Kelly has done in his career, there's nothing showing he'll be a failure. Things happen, though.

Just speaks to why fans and media know nothing about who can be successful.

He very well could possibly fail hit the reason won’t be because he isn’t a good “fit”.
In the last two seasons Ed Orgeron and Scott Frost were fired at schools that on paper were perfect “fits” for each other.
