Emery runs with too much upper body violence.

IMO that’s the issue with his fumble problems especially on a wet and rainy night. I understand his running style will profit him some nice extra yardage every now and then but his running style leaves the ball exposed too many times leading to fumbles. He needs to secure that ball with two hands when running through the LOS. By doing so it will keep his body from flailing about and exposing the ball to getting easily knocked out of his hands.

He is probably done as a go to runner. 2 fumbles will get him on the bench as it should.

If we weren't down to two RB's he would have never seen the field again. I used to defend him but cannot anymore. He is too much of a liability. Late in the game he should be nowhere near the field. Unfortunately with Goodwin out he is a necessary evil although with Williams back he may not see the field again..

He was securing the ball with two hands when it was stripped the last time. Inexcusable.

He’s too dynamic to take him off the field. The 20 yard TD run and the 39 yard reception at Auburn, the 30 yard TD reception against Bama, the 7 yard TD vs Florida. You have to go to work this week on the fundamentals and trust your coaching and his ability to accept the coaching. He’s a vital part of this team.

Maybe he’s just tucking it wrong or something. Hopefully it’s fixable.
Surprised he’s having issues with frank as RB coach. LSU always preached high and tight to your chest, especially in les miles days. Fumbling is one problem lsu RBs never really had in the past.

Or you just use him as a pass catcher out of the backfield where he can get into space and not worry about fumbling in traffic. His best plays this season have been catches out of the backfield.

He was so much more talented than everyone else coming up through HS that ball security wasn’t a concern.
Four years later, he still hasn’t fixed it.

The times when the offense was getting ready to go back on the field with John as the RB you could see Frank in his ear even before the first fumble. Obviously they know it's a problem even before the fumbles last night.

I agree that he runs violent. He is exciting to watch. He is going to have to learn when to let the animal out and when to just be solid and get what is there (preferably for plus yardage)

Agreed.
Although I would say too upright and out of control. Not sure if violent is the right word

Where’s the genius that said it wasn’t a problem because he didn’t lose any fumbles?

Don't you think this has already been done? By his coaches in high school, as well as two different college-level coaching staffs? I'm sure that coaches have been working for years to try to fix his fumbling issues. They are the only thing standing between him and greatness. It's extremely frustrating, because the talent is obvious, but it is what it is at this point.

He needs to spend this off season working on his arms and upper body strength. He is getting it ripped out too often.
Does he have smallish hands?

He will never again take a meaningful carry at LSU. He can’t be trusted. What a waste of potential.

How can they really trust his ability to accept their coaching when we are going into the last game of the season and he had two fumbles last night and another two close calls last week? I'm sure they have been coaching him hard and pounding ball security in his head. It just doesn't seem to be working.
He has had some huge plays for us this year, so it's a tough situation. I think the coaches just have to be very careful and strategic about what situations they use him in because his fumbling is a huge liability.

Look, I wish John Emery all the luck in the world, but the fact remains - he can't hold on to the football. Whether it's his running style, loss of concentration, or whatever, he fumbled the ball twice. Not good.
Right now, LSU is one game away from entering the playoffs. Starting with the SEC Championship. We can all agree, Coach Brian Kelly (or any coach) will have to field his best team members if he hopes to win all the marbles.
From here on in, including that game in College Station, the games get more brutal. The SEC is no cakewalk.
Now consider this. John Emery fumbled the ball away twice on IMO 'certain' scoring drives last night. Not good.

Roger Craig had the same issues in college and became one of the best running backs in the NFL with that upper style and high knees. Hope Emery figures things out if he can come back next year or if an NFL team takes a chance on him.

Seems like Emery has fumbled more than just last night. It will impact his draft status.
