Personally I am surprised it is going to 12. All about $$$ of course, and it will be fun.
I think 8 is my max.
All 5 Power-5 Champs
3 At Large

I like 12. All the more, good, meaningful football to watch!

Unfortunately I don’t think there is an ideal number. Every year a different number of teams deserve to play for a championship.

12, with top 4 seeds getting byes. All 1st and second rounds games are played on campus

I like 12 and set it up just like nfl playoffs used to be

I agree. 8 is perfect
Five conf champs, regardless of record
three at large

I actually agree with this.
I think 12 works out better than 4 or 2 though. In the end, it just means we get more football. Yeah some games will be duds but thats just football. Plenty will be awesome.

8
Gets in conf champs of Power 5 and leaves 3 more at large for committee to choose. Adds 1 game and probably means some early bowl games are worth watching.

I am Also at 8
And we just use the old BCS Bowl rules.
P5 champs are auto qualifiers.
+ old BCS Buster rule (G5 conference champ guaranteed if they finish in the top 12 or top 16 if they if a P5 champ is outside the top 16)
At large bids to fill the rest

But that’s why I like more teams. The more that results on the field (in a playoff), and the less we have some small group of individuals deciding who the “best 4 teams” are, and the “most deserving” teams the better.
Do you want to win a championship, then go earn it in a playoff. Maybe you’re a top 10ish team that gets hot late in the year after a couple of early losses, and you end up being the champ.

68 including the play-ins.
Oh, wait, you mean football? Maybe 8, but if they go with 12 I think it'll be good.

I loved the BCS
Me too. It made the season exciting. But the losses were more painful.
The current format isn't bad. I think jumping from 4 to 12 is rash. They should have gone to 6 for a few years first. There's no longer going to be the same level of emphasis on the regular season. For example, look at Tennessee and Georgia in two weeks. That game is going to be HUGE. But once the playoff expands, the loser will just be like "ok, see you in the playoffs..."

I like either 6 or 12. With a high ranking giving your team a massive advantage in the form of a bye and or home field advantage.
6 team playoff:
Round 1:
#1 and #2 gets a bye
#6 @ #3
#5 @ #4
Semi-final:
Winners play out how the current playoff is with the bowl locations
Final:
Stays the same
12 team playoff
Round 1:
#1, # 2, #3, #4 gets a bye
#12 @ #5
#11 @ #6
#10 @ #7
#9 @ #8
Round 2:
Winners of round 1 are paired against the top 4 as follows; lowest seed plays highest seed at high seeds stadium

I think the playoff should consist of all conference champions. I think every team should be in a conference, and if there are conferences that are too “weak” to deserve a playoff spot every year, then those conferences shouldn’t be in FBS. Conferences should each have the same number of members. Conferences can decide to send their regular season champion or their title game champion if one is significantly higher ranked than the other.
Maybe we condense from 10 conferences down to 6 or 8 and go from there.
I would also seed the playoff not by rankings but by traditional bowl tie-ins. Those bowls host the playoffs.
So, imagine there are 8 conferences: SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, American, Mountain West, Sunbelt
Big 12 Champ plays SEC Champ in the Sugar, Pac 12 plays Big 10 in the Rose, ACC plays American in the Orange, Sunbelt vs Mountain West in the Fiesta, all on New Years Day.
The playoff is then seeded by rankings, and games are played at the home stadium of the higher ranked team.
Granted, conference realignment over the next few years is about to make all of this irrelevant with the American and PAC 12 all but collapsing. Odds are, we’re going to either end up with 4 super conferences or some stupid 16 team playoff that’s nothing but rematches.
