i figure that A&M will be in the SEC as soon as the powers figure out who the balancing team will be for the EAst. I figure they want a team from the east, instead of adding two to the west and having to move somebody.

2 obvious choices -FSU and VA Tech. but i can't see why they would move. they are the top schools in their conference. While they could compete in the SEC, opportunities for BCS would be fewer.

HOw about WEst Virginia and Louisville?

After what's happening in Miami right now, I can see why any of those teams would want to bail on the ACC right now.

Don't think it will be Louisville.

I haven't paid any attention to this topic. Is there a summary somewhere? What got the A&M talk started again?

And, why not GeorgiaTech? They have a history in the SEC.

Just today Beebe told A&M that they had to decide if they were in our out (separate thread on this topic). He did that last year and Nebraska said adios.

FSU will be stopped by the UF/UGA/USCe bloc.

VaTech would be a good addition, but don't see them wanting to jump in the SEC fire after their recent poundings by LSU & Bammer.

If aTm joins, my guess would be Texas Tech or Missouri, all in the West, with Auburn being moved to the East & an expanded conference schedule to insure the Bammer/Aub & Bammer/UThug games continue every year.

I see no path for Louisville or Houston to the SEC.

I keep hearing this, but wouldn't they need a fourth school to vote against FSU as well? Thought 9 votes was all it took for concensus.

Who would the fourth school be?

It won't be Louisville. Their fan base is too small and half the Louisville market is UK fans. Hell, half the UL students are UK fans. They have atrocious attendance when they're not doing great.

I think it will be Maryland or VT, purely for the Virginia/ DC market share. If we get aTm that will give us Texas and the only way to expand the market on the east will be up the coast.
People keep giving these "natural fit" possibilities, but all of this is about more money. The only way to increase revenue will be to expand into "new" markets.

Those two are the most logical targets with Mizzou third (they can be placed in the East and have Arky as permanent football rival).

market talk is a little overrated. It's about tv ratings and fan base.

VT has a good fan showing, but it is small.

I think WV would be better for fan base, but I could be wrong.

What about East Carolina? They are large school with Football first mentality and great baseball program. They are in North Carolina contiguous to our current conference footprint. Obviously, this doesn't bring a large TV Market like DC area but I'm sure they would come as soon as invited. I highly doubt this would occur but if A&M wants to announce something by Sept. 1 then it will need to be someone who can move quickly. They could bring some of the Raleigh market.

finding a 14th team may be more complicated then what we first thought. UF will try to block FSU who I wouldn't mind adding. VT would be great as well but they have political ties to the ACC. That leaves Mizzou and WVU.

I wouldn't mind WVU, but it really is too far from other SEC schools. Closest one is UK at 5 hours...

VT does not gurantee the DC market like some believe if Maryland was good they will get way more love.

They have good fans but they have become a big arrogant since joining the ACC, they try and act like they don't have assholes but they do. Their fan base is basically only in VA and thats it.

We are way bigger assholes thats for sure, we do travel better id say we are more loyal since VT just got to big time college football in the 90's before then no one cared. We will see how great of fans they are when the lean years come.

WVU's fan base is not just WV but has lots alumni and fans in just about every major east cost city and lots of fans spread all over the country since most West Virginians are displaced.
