At the time they both showed themselves to be guys who could get to the playoffs and take an arse whopping. However, Kelly had more experience and was a proven winner at every stop. Maybe Woodward wanted Kelly more. Maybe he didn't. I have no clue and neither does anyone here.
I know myself and many fans were all on the Riley train but I didn't see Kelly as a possibility. When it went down I thought it would be a home run hire. It didn't work out and it is what it is. That doesn't mean we need to make shite up years later.
