Mark. Mangino. None bigger.

I can't imagine there would be much support if you called up a booster and told them to send you $MM so you could fire the current coach and figure out his replacement later. He's got to be pretty confident that he's got his guy and that guy is going to make the move.
well said, hadn't thought about it like that but it makes a lot of sense. Feel better now

Occam's razor says it will be Jimbo Fisher. Think about it, he and Woodward are buddies. Does it seem plausible that Woodward deliberately structured his contract to have zero buyout so they could reunite in Baton Rouge?
There are several other coaches I would rather have. But if you look at this entire thing objectively, Jimbo fisher makes the most sense if you put yourself in the mind of Scott Woodward.

The few posters that actually have an inside track have all said that Woodward has his one guy with backups in place.
This is literally impossible in the middle of a season.

Common sense tells me Saban has always regretted leaving LSU. Asked last week how much longer he was going to coach
he said he had 10 more years in him. That was a signal to
tiger fans. The man is coming home.Book it.

Bill Belichick - Sounds like crazy talk but is it? Why did Woodward supposedly call Saban? Now might be the right time to pass the reigns to Josh McDaniels and move on to a new challenge. He doesn't seem like the kind of person to just retire and sit around the house plus he loves to teach ball
This is one of the stupidest posts I’ve ever seen on any forum.

Kirby
He would definitely not be expected, but if you're willing to go after Lincoln Riley, why not Kirby Smart? Both are young and considered can't-miss guys.
If we think LSU is the better job over Oklahoma now, why can't we say that about Georgia too? LSU has 3 titles this decade, while Georgia has spent the same time period being "oh so close".

What an idiot. You never read the Saban courtship with Alabama. He has zero interest in returning to LSU.

Lololoololooolo second dumbest post I’ve seen on any forum.
I mean, if you're saying Kirby would never leave UGA for LSU, what makes you think Lincoln Riley would leave Oklahoma for LSU? Serious question.
If you think you could pry Riley away, why NOT consider doing that with Kirby?
You could make the appeal- yes, UGA is a nice spot, but you're going to be the next Mark Richt there. Always 10 wins, a couple chances at more, but never quite able to climb the mountain. Come to LSU, which seems to have just the slightest bit more potential, and win a few titles.
Isn't that the logic being employed with Riley?
Someone earlier this year commented that there were 4 candidates, and "most" were in contention for the playoffs. "Most" implies 3, "half" is 2.
At that point Clemson, Notre Dame, A&M, Ohio State and Oregon all had losses, so the list (of contenders) would have been Saban (before the A&M loss), Fickell, Harbaugh and Tucker at the Michigan schools, KIRBY AT UGA, Riley at Oklahoma.
Same poster said Franklin at Penn State was the only minority in consideration, so that takes Tucker off the list.
Assume Saban is untouchable, assume Harbaugh is not under consideration (hopefully!)...
That gives you a list of Kirby, Riley, Fickell, and Franklin.
It's stated that Woodward called Saban; from that list Kirby would be the guy Saban knows the most. Maybe he asked Nick if he thought Kirby was locked into UGA, or if he was approachable for the right price?
I have zero inside info, just playing 'what if'.

He's a UGA alum and about to win his first NC there, which will be followed by a massive raise and extension. He is unobtainable.

This would not be the first time UGA has looked amazing, only to stumble somewhere along the line. He was supposed to have built UGA into the next SEC national champ, prior to Orgeron passing him along the way (which at the time seemed eerily familiar to the early 2000's, when Richt was supposed to do it, but Saban passed him by).
I have no dog in this, I don't care as long as we get a good coach.
At the time that list of four was announced (without names other than Franklin), Saban still had Bama undefeated. And we all assumed Bama would win the matchup, because that's what Saban and Bama does. They beat UGA on the way to titles.
I get that Kirby is an UGA alum, and probably very comfortable there. Quite happy to stay there forever. But he's 45, has proven he can recruit at a top level, knows the SEC, knows Saban's system, and did spend a year here with Saban.
You have to at least feel the guy out, if you're going after top names. Who knows, maybe he says 10 mil and we can talk... what's the top coach get today? 8, 9? With more TV money, and a long-term deal, that may be the range we're looking at.
We're talking about stealing coaches from Oklahoma and Penn State, I don't see how UGA can be considered so far above them.
