Where did the “white whale” moniker come from? Did SW use that phrase?

I agree. I have wondered why you would persuade O to step down at the end of the season and then make that news public after the Florida win. Woodward had an approved and funded strategy in place. In my simple minded opinion, you don't get a group of people to commit to a $17MM buyout of the current coach unless you can convince them that the investment is worth the money. I can't imagine there would be much support if you called up a booster and told them to send you $MM so you could fire the current coach and figure out his replacement later. He's got to be pretty confident that he's got his guy and that guy is going to make the move. If this is in fact the case, I gotta give it to Woodward for being able to keep this all under wraps. Of course the fans are helping with it all by spinning and swirling every scenario under the sun. While everyone is chasing their own preferred candidates, the organization can work behind the scenes to finalize the details and get prepared for the future of LSU Football. So spin the choices and fire up the debates. I believe the deal is done and now they're just waiting for the end of the season.

Whoever first applied it to this search, they and everyone since continue to use it incorrectly.

Nick Saban

Going to go where he started and rebuild another program back to prominence.

White whale:

“an objective that is relentlessly or obsessively pursued but difficult to achieve.”

Woody pursued, and achieved

Why did you create an alter to lie about everything you post? Sumlin had a $5M buyout
quote:

The deal, which runs through 2019, was agreed to in principle and announced on Nov. 30.

The contract has buyout clauses for both Sumlin and the school. Sumlin, whose name has been associated with several recent high-profile coaching jobs, must pay the school $5 million if he leaves. The school's buyout clause runs the length of the contract.

the white whale

The story of the white whale is called Moby-Dick. It is written from the perspective of Ahab, a fisherman, who is dead set on obtaining what he has always wanted. Did you catch the important part?

At least 5 years too late and but for that moron Alleva, it may have happened the year before Miles actually got fired.

If (in the context of this thread) we’re assuming it’s not Riley or Jimbo, I’d guess one of these:

-Dabo
-Rhule
-Bob Stoops
-Brian Kelly

FWIW, I believe Woodward has his man and has had him for a while.

I think you are over the target.

Tigerbaitlawyer said it a month or so ago. Along the lines of “has his guy, welcome home, the white whale.”

It is, especially at his age, but the odds are against it big time unless LSU guarantees 9 figures

Yeah I don't think Woody screwed us over with what he did while at A&M. Most were disappointed he left, but he telegraphed he was headed home when he joined the country club in BR.
