Vol is getting that from the same place I get it. I just don't play fake insider.
Seriously. Look at when I started posting it was a done deal. Then look at when he said it. There's a reason they're within a few hours of each other.

I’m expecting to be underwhelmed, but will give him his due if he pulls off a white whale. I just don’t see it happening.

It's not going to be Nick Saban.
It's not going to be Urban Meyer.
It's not going to be Lincoln Riley.
It's not going to be Mel Tucker.
It's not going to be James Franklin.
It's not going to be Dabo Sweeney.
It's not going to be Bob Stoops.
It's not going to be Jimmy Johnson.
It's not going to be Luke Fickell.
It's not going to be Mario Cristobol.
It's either going to be Dave Aranda or Billy Napier.
Neither of those hires is going to shock the world.
For the record, I hope it's Dave Aranda.

When The Rant accepts the hire as worthy.

LSU can hire Bill Belichik and there would be a portion of the fanbase that would deem it a terrible hire and completely melt down.

That There’s an agreement in place with the coach and now we’re waiting for the season to be over for our BOS to approve it, and for his season to be over to announce it

ETA: sorry for the wall of text. TLDR: Scott has a good process and will get a good coach for LSU.
Not sure how many people have experience here hiring or conducting interviews for high level positions. Some insight from how it's done where I work ...
We go through recruiters/headhunters to help vet a list of applicants, but we also personally recommend when appropriate. The recommendations and the ones that get through the recruiter/headhunter process get lined up for interviews. At this point, you kind of have your top tier list of targets. You interview each and vet them thoroughly. Sometimes you get surprised, and that's why you're thorough. The last round I went through on this, I was surprised to find that the person I recommended personally didn't perform as well to me as someone else, and I chose the other person.
This happens with coaching searches, as well. A good AD is going to have people he initially thinks are good for the job, but by having a solid interviewing/hiring process in place, he may change his mind.
Once you get your real pecking order sorted at the top, you offer your first choice. There's usually negotiations over salary, stock, signing bonus, whatever. Sometimes you find that you're further apart than you thought you'd be and you consider your second choice, which wasn't far behind the first one anyway.
Same thing happens in coaching searches.
Sometimes, you get through your first round of candidates and realize you still need to vet a few others, just in case.
We recently offered a guy, the negotiations became a bit tough, and we started working through another round of interviews to be sure we were ready to move if needed. The negotiations continued, and I think we'll get our target, but we're ready just in case.
I think Scott Woodward is doing things in a similar fashion. He may not land the absolute #1 person he wanted, but he will land someone who meets his requirements for the position and will be seen as a competent and capable coach for LSU. He'll hire to the standards of the position and not just the personality of the person.

Ohh shite. Can you give us a hint at who it is?

Stoops - the 12th choice
BOB - the 20th choice
But anybody can win a National Championship at LSU …

What he said chicken. I just can't confirm that it's Riley because I truly don't know that. I just have a very strong opinion that it is

We are kind of burying the lead on this. Two "insiders" claiming a deal has been struck (pending season ending and BOS approval).
