With Drink seemingly emerging as a real candidate, why is there no Dillingham talk?

35 years old, players coach, and after a tough start at Arizona State got them to the playoff last year and is fighting for the conference title this year. Great success as an offensive coordinator at multiple stops.
Doesn’t seem that dissimilar as far as stature in the game as Drink yet hearing almost nothing.
I have him higher on my personal board, probably second behind Kiffin. I think it’s really freaking hard to win in Tempe and he seems to be setting up sustained success there.

lol
he said all that and then apparently interviewed with AU per some insiders there. hes available for the right situation and right price.
answer to OP is Drink has a champion on the committee: Ballard. at the moment, Dilly Dilly doesnt.

His entire family lives on the same street there. It would take a lot to move that mountain

I don't like this choice either but I'd take him before Drink in a heartbeat. That said, maybe he's happy where he's at.
I'd look at Dillingham and Golesh before I'd consider Drink. For me to hire Drink I would have to strike out on all the tier 1+tier 2 guys and maybe the tier 3 if you consider someone like Golesh on that list.
I'm not a fan of LSU dumping the bank into a guy like Kiffin unless it's a incentive contract to prevent them from sitting on their money.

They can take the PJ back and forth as often as they want for what he’d get paid

Drink would be over 10mil/yr, no way he is worth that. Not sure what Dillinghams number is, but I try him before Drink all day.

thank you
Dilly is a much better coach than Drink. If we wanted to pay 10 million + just to lose everytime we play a top 15 team we could have just kept BK. talk of Drink has got to be coming from fans with a sub 90 IQ.

Much greater risk. Drinkwitz is in his 7th season as a HC, 6th at the P5 level, has an obvious upward trajectory at Missouri where he's going for his third straight 10+ win season at a second-tier school in the SEC. Drinkwitz has proven that he's at least a good coach.
Dillingham is only in his third season as a HC with one awful season, one good season (so far), and one great season where he rode Cam Skattebo to the playoffs in a weak conference. It's much more of a coin flip with that resumé.

You will have to pay Drinkwitz around 11 million. You will have to give him a huge buyout, because you are paying him like a top tier coach. Absolutely insane. Find a younger coach and give him half the salary and half the buyout. Drinkwitz has proven he can’t beat good teams with a pulse and we are going to pay him like he is Ryan Day or Kirby Smart? LOL

Drink is a smokescreen. He’s not coming to LSU.

So we are going after a guy who has a worse record vs top 25 than Kelly. Wtf is wrong with people?
Eli Drinkwitz has a career record of 7-14 against AP Top 25 teams, according to Rock M Nation and Sports Illustrated. He is 0-6 against ranked SEC teams in the last two seasons alone.

I’d love to see KennyD in purple & gold, just don’t see him leaving ASU:
-Both he & Mrs. are ASU grads
-He made $7.4 million last year, so getting paid
-She is having a baby next few months
-Both their immediate families are in AZ to help with kids
This was all reported by Matt Barrie on ESPN radio a few days back. Matt is also an ASU grad.

Drink may be on his way to another 10+ win season or on his way to 6-6 or anywhere in between. Played 3 ranked teams and lost, and need OT and bad coaching to beat Auburn. BK had two 6-2 and a 5-3 SEC record in three seasons.
Drink has had one 6-2 season, one 5-3 season, two 3-5 seasons, and a 5-5 COVID season. He already has 3 SEC losses, and with games vs Mississippi State, at Oklahoma, and at Arkansas, he could easily end up with a 4-4 or 3-5 season..
While I would not hate a Drinkwitz hire, I would not rejoice at the hire either. He will have to earn my trust, which really won't take that much for me, but a couple of 9 or 8-win seasons to start will have me concerned we made another bad hire. And another expensive bad hire.

I don't disagree, I was simply addressing the Drinkwitz vs Dillingham comparison. I don't think either of them are a first option type for LSU.
Brian Kelly in 3 and a half seasons at LSU went 34-14 with 3 bowl wins, an SEC championship appearance, and a Heisman winner after taking over a program in far worse shape than Miles or Orgeron did. Yet if you read the posts here you'd think he went 5-7 for 4 years straight. LSU didn't fire Kelly for that to then turn around and make Eli Drinkwitz or Kenny Dillingham or Alex Golesh or Jon Sumrall their main target.

The situation with Kelly became untenable. Anyone with a set of eyes can see it was more than just the win loss record

I'm sure it was. There's been a lot of weirdness with this entire era of LSU football. If the reports are true though, and Kelly was bringing in top 10 high school classes and a #1 portal class without trying, then it only shows how desirable LSU really is.

More than that, Mizzou will just match that offer.
