He could shite a national championship trophy tomorrow and there would still be a few fans that would be against him.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Fair question.

My perspective is simple: we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now, I do not want Coach O to just get this job because he was around. That's absurd.

Let's see Coach O lead this team to a 7-1 record and a win over 'Bama. At that point, based on how well the team would need to have played, I think Coach O will have a strong case to keep the job.

(Of course, if he can get this team to beat Alabama, I'd love to know why he lost a game...)

So we're going to give the LSU job to a DL coach that no other power 5 school wants as its HC based on a sample size of 8 games? And he's only been at LSU two years of his coaching career.

Bama game should not be a litmus test for the coaching search. They start a freshman QB, have a weaker OL than usual and the game is in Baton Rouge.

Smart hire is a proven HC, but Coach O could end up being the perfect coach for LSU (excellent recruiter, enough experience in previous jobs to stay out of the way of good assistant coaches, local guy with the personality to keep things interesting.)

Or he could be LSU's version of Mike Dubose.

Against him? Hell no. Against him being the permanent head coach? Hell yes. 8 games with one of the most stacked teams in the country, a preseason top 5 rank?

Pretty easy to win with that squad, just get out of their way. Maintaining that level and developing players over time is a different story.

this...

and he still wont get it.. nor should he.. he could win the national championship and he should not get the job.. that is an emotional decision, stop being a woman..

he has been passed over for just about every head job in the country for a reason.. everyone knows new energy doesn't last, he is a perfect fit for what he is doing now, bringing in new energy to a team that was dead. He is not the long term solution by any means. I even put money down that he will run the table because of a few things... new energy, nothing to lose attitude and he already had one of the most talented team in the country filled with players trying to earn a nice paycheck a year from now.. its a recipe for success.. hell you should go 7-1 easily with that..

People keep mentioning that "no other top program would hire him except us". Who the hell cares what other programs would do. Every couple years there's a new hot name in coaching. Well guess what...the same 3-5 coaches win the title every year. I don't give a damn what the current trend is to hire.

man the only way I am buying Coach O as full time is winning the SEC Championship. That's what the goal was the former guy and I see no reason to change. If you asked Coach O what he needs to do to keep this job you know what he would say????

Win all of the games. Period. I like the guy but that ain't winning shite. If the top 2 or 3 say no and Ed O is there with a 7-1 or 6-2 maybe......but not until others say no

Simple economics man. The market has a very good idea of who will/should be successful. Some schools take chances on people hoping they strike it rich.

LSU is not one of those schools.

Was Les Miles highly sought after when we hired him?
Saban, while highly respected, was not a "hot name" at the time.

Hottest named coaches recently who failed:

Rich Rod
Will Muschamp
Lane Kiffin
Charlie Weis
Charlie Strong
Steve Sarkisian
Dan Hawkins
Gene Chizik
Gus Malzahn
Randy Shannon
Brady Hoke

I don't care whatsoever who the hot name in coaching is. They fail all the time.

He was already the HC at a P5 conference, so obviously SOMEONE wanted him.

You've lost it. Skip said just the other day that Saban had been offered multiple jobs while at Mich ST.

Yep, they sure do. But name me the completely irrelevant coaches that get hired and then win an NC, since thats what we're looking for here. Dabo is the one that got the closest, and he did not have a previous HC job that he failed miserably.

The 'hot names' are 100 times more likely to succeed than the failed coaches.

Offerings don't mean they are from big time programs. You don't know small programs haven't offered O.

Lol that O is "completely irrelevant."

Given that there are only a 4 active coaches with national titles, I'd say its a crap shoot no matter who you hire. Them being a hot name at one point or another doesn't mean shite.

I want LSU to get Tom Herman. I want LSU to go after Tom Herman aggressively. I do not care what happens with Coach O and his interim situation. HIRE TOM HERMAN or at least make him an offer he'd be foolish to refuse.

LSU fans: no SEC program fears LSU being led longterm by Coach O. The same cannot be said for LSU being led by Tom Herman.

Anyone see Coach O's insight on the Florida situation?

Well I know he wanted the Syracuse job last year, very openly. And he didn't get a offer.

As a HC, O is irrelevant. That's just a fact.

Even without an NC, isn't it extremely logical that a coach with a 70% winning percentage would be much less risk than one with a 30%winning %?

I mean, that's pretty simple right?

And when your program has a legitimate chance at getting one of them, you don't hire Ed Orgeron instead.
