IDK, I think it's going to take more than just beating Bama. Then again there are going to be fans who aren't going to be happy unless we get Herman, and the chances of that happening are very slim

LSU is like any other major college football team. The fans have absolutely no say so in who gets hired as a HC. Again, like at many schools, the HC position at LSU is a political football. Too, it would depend on who is available/possibly left over, and that should be cleared up by the end of the season.

There's a lot of anti-O talk on here. I get that some of it is mainly to calm expectations of those who want him hired right now.
But if he goes 7-1 the rest of the way & beats Bama, will he not have won everyone over at that point? If not, is there anything he could do this year to win everyone over?
I don't think you can simply look at his record and make a good decision.
What if he goes 7-1, the teams looks very much like a Miles coached team, but they find a way to win. Then, he takes the stance that he wants the exact coaching staff next year. Meanwhile, you are staring at your top outside target ready to say yes.
In that scenario, I'm making a change despite his record.
The flip side is he goes 7-1, the team has fulfilled its pre-season hype and looks like a great team, Orgeron has a desire to bring in a stud OC, and Herman is looking like a lock for Texas.
In that scenario, Orgeron is probably a good decision.
The bottom line is that this decision should be made looking forward. You choose the guy that you think gives you the best chance of success in the future...you don't choose a guy based on the past (his 7-1 record).

Not at all but he's coached one game and y'all are clamping to hire the guy on 7-1 hypotheticals
Let's argue about that if it happens

It's a coaching search. Everything right now is hypothetical. And every local media person has given him an A+ in his first week plus we looked great on Saturday. That's why this is even being discussed. If he get embarrassed vs Florida then obviously we can slow down with the O talk.

Honestly Coach O is fighting an uphill battle.
Beating Bama in Death Valley is not impossible bc they do start a freshman Qb.
We would probably have to be in the playoff mix for him to be considered.
So let's say he does finish 7-1 and beats Bama that would mean that somewhere he lost to a team that had less talent than LSU.
I really think he'd have to be 8-0 as our coach to retain the job.

People know how I feel about CEO and his past HC record.
The biggest factor is the unknown with him. If he were to go to a smaller and rebuild the team a winner most would be foaming at the mouth to hire him.
Instead people are leary of him taking over mid season pretty much with a team he didn't build and winning. That's the difference.
The unknown of what he can build at one of the top 5 jobs in America.

If we could still win the west I can see taking one for the rest of the conference.
The melt after what they'd done sank in would be worth it

this isn't about this year.
This is about the future of the program.
This is about maintaining a program.
O failed as a HC. There's no evidence he can keep it up.
No top 20 program would hire O except us. What does that tell you?
Unless the team is just amazing the rest of the way, LSU is too big a program to settle.

See. Not only would everyone else want O to be hired, but no one else wants to hire O.
Do people want a coach that no one else wants? Do we want to take a risk like that?

Why would anyone want a coach that is
0-2 vs Mike Shula
1-2 vs Sylvester Croom
0-3 vs Houston Nutt

So you're going to fire your most successful head coach ever and hire a guy that's 24-27? Fine by me, but don't be offended if people
a little bit.

Basically it's make the playoff or bust
Posted on 10/5/16 at 5:35 pm to JuiceTerry
I agree. LSU needs to identify the best available head coaches. If CEO goes undefeated, he is in that group. Anything less, he is considered only if and when all top-tier coaches turn LSU down.
Posted on 10/5/16 at 5:39 pm to beauxroux
The nothing more needs to be said about CEO.
People have their mind made up that if he does this or that he will or wont get the job. So no point in arguing with people.
They know how ugly his stats are at HC and they just dont care so no need to argue any further.

Just crazy talk. I keep waiting for LSU fans to say....GOTCHA!

I don't think that's what hardly anyone is saying. I think what the pro-O contingent is hoping for is that he proves that he's up there with the best of them as we go.
If he rolls all the lesser teams like he did Mizzou, and gets close wins against Bama and Ole Miss, the idea is that he will have demonstrated that he has improved vastly since his OM stint and somewhat more since even USC.
I don't know how likely that is, but I'm damn sure pulling for him. It'd be a hell of a story line, and it'll be fun to watch.

So Coach O goes 7-1 and beats Bama and LSU doesn't give him the job, I would think he would leave. So let's say Texas, Florida State, Notre Dame and Auburn are all open. You think any of those schools would hire Coach O as head coach? No way. The only high profile colkege football program in the country that would consider him is LSU. Now ask yourself why that is and you'll realize why LSU should not make him head coach under any circumstances.
