Seems like a better prospect than most of the names being thrown out, including Freeman (who I’d love), Nielsen, and Mason. Reportedly a good recruiter. Successful SEC DC at two recent stops. Certainly appears he’ll be looking for a job. I don’t get why he’s not considered more of a candidate.

Considering how he bounced from LSU after a season for a lateral move to a rival school, that might have rubbed the admin the wrong way.

Steele wants state pension retirement on top of top pay. He’s not leaving the state of Alabama.

He moved to Auburn bc he’s heavily invested in the Alabama pension retirement deal. And he’s said he’s gonna retire in 2 years. They pay him well there and he likes it there. Idk how we lure him away unless you offer him an amount we are not willing to offer a DC.
I think he’s the best DC in the country, even better than Venabrels, but we ain’t gettin him or Elko...

Someone in his family is high up with either Auburn or the state of Alabama too. I can’t remember exactly what it is.

I know this has been out there, but seems ridiculous to me, but I really think it was an excuse to get away from Les and Alleva. He’s made millions as a DC, any Alabama state retirement would be a fraction of his net worth. Plus, who’s going to hire him in AL? Is he gonna take 100k to be an analyst for Saban or 200k to be DC at South Alabama when he could make 2 million at LSU? I promise you, AL state retirement is not worth millions of dollars.

Uh, LINK please? He was just about to sign a multi-year contract to be HC at Auburn.

He held Burrow to 23 points, remind me how Clemson did...(hint:it was 42)
He schemes against SEC West talent year in and year out, tell me about the powerhouses of the ACC Clemson plays. And as of the past 5 years Clemsons talent is far superior!

O knows better than to hire a guy that orchestrated a coup to oust the head coach and take his job.

That is spot on. He is a top 3 DC in the country and maybe the best.

If he gets a head job at Auburn or gets top pay as a DC in the state, it’s absolutely worth it are you insane? Especially at his rate of pay to get that the rest of his life is a ton of money. It absolutely matters.

Do you really think there is no cap on the Alabama retirement plan? This is a plan for government employees in a poor state, designed for cops and teachers. If they have to pay Steele or Saban millions of dollars per year until they die, they’d go bankrupt. BTW, the annual base salary of Kevin Steele’s most recent contract was just $250K, the rest was from “endorsements” and “personal appearance “ rights ( LINK). That means his pension would be some fraction of that $250K at best. Stop with this nonsense! Steele left because Alleva was constantly threatening to fire Les, so he got while the getting was good.

Apparently he worked with influential boosters to push Malzahn out. His name is likely mud among the coaching fraternity if those allegations are true.

Dang, that’s a lot of downvotes for Kevin Steele! He’s not my 1st choice either, but you guys would really prefer Mason over Steele? That, to me, is crazy.

I love how people say something like this with conviction like this actually adds to the argument. So, serious question, do you actually think that this means one coach is better than the other. Base it on points scored in one game? thats your defining variable?

His state pension will be like 70k. This has been debunked numerous times. The returns from his millions will be 10x that.

I was at the Auburn game, maybe because my recollection of the entire 2019 season is now bathed in heavenly light forever, I don’t recall “poring rain” during the Auburn game. I recall moving the ball but getting stopped in the red zone.
