Why is Gary Patterson still at TCU?

Everyone keeps asking why Chris Peterson hasn't gotten a bigger job. He's only in his forth year, and took over a program that averaged 10.5 wins under the previous coach.
Gary Patterson has had 10+ wins in six out of his nine seasons and took over a program that averaged 8 wins under the previous coach.
Are there dead bodies in the closet holding him back like Brian Kelly?

According to Wikipedia he turned down a $2MM a year offer from Minnesota. I don't think he's still there from lack of interest on the part of BCS conf schools.
An argument can be made though that because of the love his conference gets and the location of TCU, his situation may be better than most BCS conference schools that offer him a job.

I can buy waiting for the right opportunity, but I doubt he is there much longer unless there are some skelatons I am not aware of. The past couple of years I have not heard his name mentioned for many jobs which is surprising given his resume(I apparently missed the Minnesota offer though).

I have wondered the same thing. I thought he was a lock for Kansas State last year. Perhaps he's waiting for the Texas A&M job to open?
I could see him leaving if ND strikes out on Meyer, Stoops, etc and looks to Patterson for a defensive minded coach.
He is a more proven candidate than Kelly because, unlike Kelly, he has beaten some quality, big name programs.

He's a KState alumn. KState offered him the job when they hired Ron Prince I believe and they may have offered it again before Snyder came back.
He'd be a fool to leave TCU unless it's for a top-5 job. He makes the most in the MWC, he has a system in place that puts him in the top 2 or 3 in the MWC every year, and given the fact that he's the only MWC school in Texas, he has access to talent that the rest of the conference can't really compete with.

Fertile recruiting base within a 3hr radius, ability to be dominate in a league and get to BCS which gives him and his program exposure. Plus making good money now allows him to be selective, smart if you ask me.

If he gets to a BCS bowl this year the time would be ripe for him to accept an offer from a powerhouse program with an opening
Saying no to Minnesota is a good idea... short of north dakota and wyoming I don't see harder places to recruit kids to - a program of lesser significance than it's in conference competitors... with some of the worst weather in the country

A friend of mine (TCU ALUM) told me yesterday that he's making around 3 mil. I know it's reported 1.3, but just telling you what i was told. Lots of wealthy folks associated with TCU!

He isn't making 3 million period. With endorsements, etc. he's probably making around 1.8-2 million. That's great money for a non-BCS school. He's making bank and has a great situation at TCU. If he's going to leave there now, it's going to be for a real good situation. Not some shite show like Louisville or say Syracuse.

My guess is there's only a handful of jobs he'd leave for. Until then he's a stayer.

ESPN already had a segment on this, and supposedly, the reason he's staying put is because he's tired of packing up and moving.

this absolutely makes sense especially since Gary has 3 boys ages 21,14,10. He's found a great place to coach football, he's making plenty of money, he's well respected around Ft. Worth, and then there's the stability factor for his kids.

I do not see him going to a school unless it was a big one. Minnesota would not be that mush of a move up from TCU. He's got it made at TCU and will not go unless it is a great deal and school.
