Why did Chris Petersen leave Boise St. for Washington?

I mean he turned down so many big time offers because he "loves Boise", or because his son is getting the treatment he needs there ect...
Now he leaves to go to Washington? Seems like it's basically a lateral move, why would he do that?

I think his son is the major factor and Washington is close enough or has similar doctors.

Lateral move??? Your an idiot.
He is from the pacific NW. For all we know he was wanting the job for a long time and was willing to be patient for it.
He is all about lifestyle and he gets what he wants there.

A MWC job is not a lateral move to a decent Pac 12 job, especially with the end of the BCS. He likes the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is a great city and he doesn't have to worry constantly about getting canned.

He wants to be in the northwest. UW was the best available job. The only job better is probably Oregon, and they didn't have a vacancy

Yes, he's had his eye on the Washington job for a while and when it came open, he wanted it pretty badly. He was a big fan of Don James and saw what this program can be like with a good coach.
And whoever said going to Washington is a lateral move from Boise St.

Correct. Despite their extremely recent relative success, Boise State is basically a glorified community college.
Washington is actually a rather storied program, and of course a big time school a big time conference.

Lots of things but I think part of it was he wanted to jump while he still had options. Look at a guy like Gary Patterson at TCU. A couple of years ago he was one of the "ungettable" coaches but now that TCU is being shown to be a lower tier BDF team his stock is in the tank.
Peterson has been bleeding assistants the last few years and starting to lose more at Boise, good time to move while his star still shines.
Nothing wrong with UW either. Great school, nice city, brand new stadium. Decent base of talent left there by Sark.
I've heard the kid thing is overblown as well. Peterson actually had some pretty significant smoke for the A&M job when we hired Sumlin as he had a relationship with Byrne and liked the college town feel of CS. He didn't take it but apparently the kid issue was no longer a concern.

Yes but their success is because of him, he has turned Boise into a very successful program. Maybe it is a stretch to say it's a lateral move. But considering some of the jobs he's turned down to stay at Boise in the past, I guess I'm just surprised this is the job he leaves for.
I figured the NFL would get him before another college job
