the crazy thing is, BK has won at ND without even a truly elite QB

He still arguably had better QB play than what LSU had for most of those 12 years of his tenure.

Yeah I don’t get the big gripe on age. Saban was 56 when he was hired as Bama’s coach.

Yeah that's the one real big issue but all the rantards want to focus on his age and lies about his recruiting.

Hopefully Howard is the truth and we have time to find another QB

For whatever reason, they think only guys who have youth pastor starter kits can recruit now.

They forget what Dan Mullen style recruiting is like.

I think 60 is a good age. Probably be his last move and can still get a decade out of him.

yea i agree.

my point is hes made some scrubs into actual winning Qbs; in no other world should ian book have gotten drafted.

golson, rees, kizer, book, coan. imagine winning 90% with that

I don’t know if Kelly is the coach or not, but he’s a really good coach and we’d be lucky to land him. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been. Hell, I wanted to hire him in 2010 when he went to Notre Dame.

ETA: Looks like I was defending him back in 2007 too. LINK

I wouldn't even say it's a real issue. He's never produced a heisman candidate, but ND consistently has serviceable QB play.

It's crazy especially since O/Miles had no issues recruiting and both are old. Saban is old and doing fine.

A bunch of old geezers think "those millennials with their NIL" want a HC who will stroll up to in-home visits on a skateboard and flatbill.

I worry that he'll have the ability to connect with kids in LA and surrounding area vs the types he was going after for ND with 23+ ACTs, and I do wonder if he will have the wherewithal in his mid 60s to put in the time at a high level. I also don't see your scenario that he just decides to retire at 65 after 5 great years, given what he has on his contract.

Also, apparently his recruiting took a step higher because of Marcus Freeman.

I hope that he can pull the OL from the Midwest. Seems like a safe bet on that and a huge plus.

He’s the same age as Ed Orgeron.

This is some dumb arse bullshite to worry about the man’s age. Treat the kids with respect, go all out for them, and they will go all out for you. Age has nothing to do with it. In fact, with age usually comes wisdom. What I just spoke is old man wisdom. These players don’t need buddies. They need people who can prepare them for LIFE and Life in the NFL. They want to be successful. They have enough buddies and pals

I prefer Aranda too but that might be because most of my life, LSU has been coached by absolute morons, so seeing a cerebral, young coach building something makes me envious, but obviously Kelly has an insanely good resume. I still can't help but feel we are going to get fricked at the last minute.

CBK is a somewhat functional adult and has a mastery of the English language. So he already has my support.
