I think Mullen is a first class football Coach and he certainly is more of a sure thing than a Gruden or Kelly.

He does have a real quirky personality, it that is what is holding him back ?

It is hard to believe that he is not a first choice candidate.

Dan would be a very good fit and hire at ATM.

He'd have top-tier facilities, resources and recruiting grounds there, as well as a fanbase that's more reasonable and patient in their expectations than UF and UT. Best of both worlds for him (and his wife).

His floor there would likely be equal or above Sumlin's ceiling. Mullen (w/ Grantham or Chief) could hit the ground running there.

ATM should make him a sweet offer. He'd probably take it.

I doubt he actually wants UT and UF clearly doesn't like him personally or he would have been hired in a previous search

It means he doesn't want to leave. Nobody gets offered a job in CFB until they accept it.

In what respect? Mullen hasn’t won his conference, played for a national championship, or been called up to the Majors...

Back on topic—if he is coaching at MSU next year, I think it’s because he wants to.

The local Tupelo newspaper sports section said he was raising his 2 daughters in a safe place and he liked that. Today, he said he had everybody coming back next year and he could have a real good team next year. I think he stays.

I agree. I was surprised when LSU didn't have him in there top two behind Jimbo. I have always liked Mullen. He is a bright coach trained by Urban Meyer. He would do an awesome job at a top tier SEC school. Don't understand.

It means he is happy being the king of the trailer park. He can win 8-9 games a year there for the rest of his career and when he retires they will name the stadium after him and build multiple statues.

With the money a D1 heaD football coach makes they can create a safe place anywhere.

Why? Use objective facts instead of your subjective perception. I think even the slightest research will show he’s done a nice job, but that’s about it.

I also don’t think his personality will allow him to recruit at the level he’d have to at Florida to compete on the national scale. Although he does seem likable, he comes off as kinda goofy. Miles made that work for him. I’m not sure Dan can. I could be wrong though. But as an LSU fan who plays UF every year, I’d much rather them hire Dan than Kelly or Frost.

Mullen always seemed kind of thin skinned and prickish to me, can see where is personality would wear thin

I think the reasons concerning the UF job have been covered to death on here. It's kinda like standing in line to beat a dead horse. It's a foregone conclusion, Mullen ain't going to Florida, and never was..

As far as the Tenn job, I think he knows that getting them over the hump would take a lot of time, too much time, thus not worth the effort. In other words, why start something over, when you're not finished with you're current work. Not to mention there being great risk involved.
Besides, staying put and having a much better team next year, and likely, a better team the following 2 or 3 years, compared to what he would have at Tenn.

Well, as far as Florida if he doesnt get offered it really doesnt mean much. Floridas AD is a MSST alumni so I doubt he’ll be the one who takes one the best HCs theyve ever had

This is the right answer. Hell hes 6-32 vs the top 25 in 9 years there and MSU fans have zero problems with that record. He's a big fish in a puddle. At UT and UF he would've been fire by year 4 with his record. He knows it and we know it.

Yup. No one cares about msu enough for him to have the pressure of major programs. Keeps them in the middle of the pack, and thats all msu can expect and will be happy with. Which is a comfy spot to be in. Would be nice.

What happened to sharkteef at uf from something random he threw out at a presser, would never happen at msu. Just wouldn't make a blip on the radar, cause it's msu.

Mullen doesn’t have more upside then Kelly or maybe even Gruden . Great head coaches move up to elite schools fast . I think he is a scary hire because he would likely be like Richt at Georgia and do enough to make it hard to fire him . Kelly is more likely to fail but he is also more likely to dominate.

His record against the SEC West is 17-32.

How’s that for an actual objective reason?

Also, check his record against the Top 25. He also wore shorts last season in the South Alabama game. And he lost.

The reasons for not hiring him are legion.
