Very real chance they miss on their next choice especially considering the expectations.
My dream is that they hire the wrong guy or hire the right guy but get too impatient and cut him loose early and slowly sink into the Nebraska/Tennessee pit of mediocrity.

It could be a glorious time.

I would put it pretty high. Things are changing with the SEC expansion. Good chance Alabama gets left behind

I think they'll hire someone that today people will say, "that's a solid hire." Now, whether that works out or not is a different story. If it doesn't, all of the "that's a solid hire" people will immediately say it was a failure of a hire, though.

They did on several coaches after Bear Bryant retired.

The truth is, Bama has an excellent program. But there are no home run hires out there.

Every single coach outside of Kirby or Harbaugh have a ton of question marks.

Kelly is one of the safest bets, and despite what some fans think, LSU hit that home run.

Sark? If he stays off the sauce maybe.

Kiffin? Can he win the big game

Dabo? Was he just a flash in the pan

Lanning? He’s only has to maintain a program for a few years. Can he do it in the grinder that the SEC is?

They had plenty time to work this out and get their results!

Depends what you mean by butchering the hire

They are not going to hire a Curley Hallman type. Whoever they do hire will, at least on paper, be qualified.

Does that mean they will equal Sabans success? No it will be almost impossible to.

Will be interesting to see if the hire can handle the pressure of following Nick. I think that will be the biggest factor

Even if they don’t miss, they will think they missed.

Some of our fans think LSU missed on Kelly

What does history say?

Bear to Perkins to Curry

Stallings to DuBose to Fran to Mike Price to Mike Shula

Then Saban.

I’d say there’s a great chance they hire an average coach.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Bama will have talent still. Financial support. Fan support etc to continue to be “good”. But saban took a team this year that looked pretty average early in, and improved them to win the SEC. his coaching/preparation and mojo is good for at least 1-2 wins that maybe shouldn’t have been. Will that next coach have that?? So even though 10-2 continuously is pretty respectable it ain’t bama/saban standards.

Going to be interesting to say the least. And how long do they stick with “10-2 average seasons”?

Alabama is almost always going to be a threat. Every head coach it’s had since Bear Bryant has had at least 1 good team even if there were stinkers in between. Even Mike DuBose won an SEC title.

But it will be damn near impossible for them to be consistently dominant. They will probably rise and fall like most every other SEC heavyweight has done in recent years.

Odds are always 50/50. Either they will or they won’t
