I am going to call BS on this.

1. The actual contract itself is not at the present time being drafted.

2. What coaches initially sign is called a "Memorandum of Understanding" (MOU) upon the date of the announced hiring or soon thereafter. This is also known as a "Terms Sheet" or "Offer Sheet". It basically spells out the financial terms and conditions of the deal. This document may be in the works but it will be passed between the attorneys for the parties several times until there is a firm agreement in the terms and conditions.

3. Term sheets in general are not legally binding, but do witness the intent of the parties.

4. Over the next several months the actual Employment Agreement will be drafted after going back and forth between the attorneys representing each of the parties to said contract to hammer out the fine details.

5. Once the final draft of the The Employment Agreement has been completed, same will then be presented to the coach for signing.

6. The representative from LSU will not be allowed to sign the Employment Agreement until the Board of Supervisor's have reviewed and approved the said Agreement and authorized the representative of LSU to sign same. Only then will there be an enforceable contract between the parties.

Case in point:

Brian Kelly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on November 30, 2021.

Brian Kelly signed the Employment Agreement with LSU on April 4, 2022.

William Tate, the duly authorized representative of LSU, signed the Employment Agreement on April 12, 2022.
