FAU is a much better gig than UNLV.

That's a spot for a desperate young coach, or a retread wanting one last shot

Yep, which is why Sanchez was hired from being a high school HC. Maybe the new stadium helps a little, but UNLV is almost always bad.

That’s a last stop before retirement job.

I feel like this would be a job for someone to jump from the California JUCO ranks to D1. That would be my primary recruiting target if I were the HC at UNLV anyway.

I wonder if the stadium will help? It never has made much of a difference for colleges who play or used to play in NFL stadiums(Tulane/Superdome, Temple/The Vet & Lincoln Financial, Rutgers/Giants Stadium, SMU/Texas Stadium, Houston/Astrodome, Miami/Orange Bowl & Hard Rock Stadium, Minnesota/Metrodome, and San Diego St/Jack Murphy Stadium). The only teams with any success was Miami and that had nothing to do with the stadium. SMU and Houston also had limited success but were cheating their asses off. This stadium being really nice might help though.

@RyanBartow: Has potential to be one of the best jobs in the Mountain West going forward w/ amazing new facility and new stadium. Has the goods to be a mid-major force in recruiting given direct flights into Vegas, proximity to so Cal & Phoenix, can recruit JUCOs, transfer portal, etc

UNLV paid him $600,000 this year. 95 assistants made more.

And there's little to no talent closer than 250 miles. It's not a good job - probably the 9th best job in the 7th best league.

UNLV's situation isn't really normal. The Raiders stadium is about 4x closer to campus than the Silver Bowl was. It's also centered, instead of the outskirts of Vegas.

UNLV never drew much because of the remote location, distance from campus and it being a total ****hole. Now they'll be central Vegas, much closer to campus and in a brand new place.

It might not help much, but it's an upgrade in all aspects.

That would actually be a good fit and perfect for all parties involved.

You should be UNLV's athletic director

Will be interesting to see who they get. Local media is already throwing out pipe dreams names as people "interested".

The new facilities and stadium should help but UNLV is such a weird campus and really hard to get talent to come in. All the good talent from Gorman never even entertained UNLV, Sanchez couldn't even keep them in state.

The old stadium was a dump. Although I enjoyed going to a game when times didn't conflict with LSU games. You could always get a $5 ticket and sit close.

Tosh Lupoi.

Young, great recruiter. Wants to be a head coach. Has experience coaching/recruiting the west coast. I dont necessarily think he's ready to be a HC but he'd probably be cheap to hire and they could spend more $ on quality assistants.

I think Rich Rodriguez could be a good hire for them

Or Mike McIntyre. He knows the conference and did pretty well at San Jose St

Here is article form local paper.

RJ Article

From the article

Keep an eye on finances, too. Reed-Francois promised to be “competitive” compared with other Mountain West salaries, and it’s believed she could pay in the $900,000 range or so.

Joe Brady, passing game coordinator, Louisiana State. Only 30, Brady is a rising star in the coaching profession. He spent two years as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints before moving into his current role with LSU this season. Quarterback Joe Burrow’s Heisman candidacy could attract a lot of interest in Brady.

Clay Helton, head coach, Southern California. He has been on the proverbial hot seat all season, but the Trojans are surging with three consecutive victories to get to 8-4 and a No. 25 ranking. USC has a new athletic director in Mike Bohn, who knows he has a fan base that wants to get back to competing for national championships and might go for a big-name hire.

Like I said, local media is throwing out some pipe dreams. Considering they paid Sanchez $600k and appears they might go up to $900K. I've read Houston Nutt and Sark too.

The Fertitta's put up 35 million to upgrade the facilities. They insisted on Sanchez as coach. I hated that idea, private school coach who recruits, against talent starved public schools. BUT, every class Sanchez recruited, was UNLV's best class EVER. He could talk parents into letting "little Johnny", go play in Vegas. The new stadium WILL lift Las Vegas' profile with recruits. Every one will be watching the "Las Vegas kick off classic." Large P5 schools in town. All west coast conference championship games, will be played in that stadium, PAC 12, MWC, and they will go after the BIG 12 championship game also, the city is pissed at Jerry for going after NFR. Now, the AD just needs to find a good coach. John Robinson was the coach here the last time Vegas made a bowl game. Yes, the old dude on LSU's sideline.

UNLV is hiring on Indeed. If any of you want to apply.

I put in my resume. Figure my 3 straight years of leading Idaho to the National Title on NCAA 2012 will put me towards the top of the list.

Gorman was the IMG of the West for a while. Of course they wouldn’t consider UNLV in football.
