That's a terrible hire with the amount of young guys out there.

I give up. I’ve held out hope since 1987 tgst tgey can do something close to right.

There are like 100 innovative successful dynamic energetic young guys to hire.

They hire Terry freaking Bowden.

I just realized that North Louisiana is going to have Bobby Bowden’s son and Lou Holtz’s son coaching their colleges

ULM is barely staying a float in FBS and I'm being generous. I believe their budget is the lowest in FBS. Its not a place you can win. Todd Berry gave them a couple non losing seasons, a bowl game and some memorable upsets and he's currently out of a job. Matt Viator was a regular playoff contender at FCS, barely moved the needle at ULM before he was fired at 5 seasons.

I’m not sure that’s true, if you’re a young guy on the rise ULM is the type of graveyard you avoid. Sure you could turn it around and parlay that into a huge job...but the numbers say that’s unlikely

My buddy told me the administration shut down Joe Sloan who was the favorite after interviews.

ULM can't get out of their own way.

Joe Sloan is an unbelievable recruiter and is a young up and coming coach. A lot of people believe he is head coach in waiting at LA Tech. They could have grabbed a young energetic coach familiar with the region and instead go hire a dinosaur.

How bad is that job where you have to give it to Terry fricking Bowden? Woof.

ETA: and this isn't to take a shite on ULM either. I know nothing about the school other than they play SEC opponents regularly for those beat down paycheck games. Must be a rough spot for coaches if they're hiring Tater Tot.

I’d hire Bo Pelini before Bowden. Of course, I don’t think Bo would want that job.

Which might be why this isn't such an awful hire.

Akron is pretty much a coaching graveyard too, and was in bad shape when Terry was hired there. He struggled, but managed to make 2 bowls, win a division title, upset Northwestern, and almost beat Michigan.

Just playing devil's advocate, but the thinking might be if Terry can have okay success again, ULM could become a more attractive job for a good young coach to totally turn around.
