I am guessing out of those 3 it will probably be Will Friend. CSU has a really good offense under him so pretty solid.

FWIW Will's dad was later the HC at Starkville HS and his mom taught at Starkville HS as well.

Update: Have officially interviewed Venables and, as with Pruitt, talks have been in the works for a week or more. Smoke still looks like Pruitt gets the nod. ----------------------------- Consensus is Pruitt will try to bring either Chip Lindsey, Billy Napier, or Will Friend on as OC if hired. Other names that may get interviews are Troy and UAB's coaches, Mike Bobo, Venables, and Todd Monken. But this one feels like it's going to be Pruitt and I think has been in the works since well before Mullen officially took another job.

If State ends up with Venables or Pruitt, can we officially say it's a better job than UT? GD... That's world class handling of a coaching vacancy with the coach only leaving officially as of yesterday...

I'm gonna predict a Venables hire, even if his wiki page says he's the coach at Arkansas.

Word is Cohen had been working this for a week. The guy is sharp and looks like he had the potential to be one heck of an AD for a long time. That being said, he's also the kind of guy who'd tell Sexton to shove it up his arse, so there's that too. Not sure who Venables' agent is.

Cohen is killing it, that much is certain. Long way to go before the ink dries but I would be happy with all of the top 3.

The TN fanbase has poisoned that well so badly that John L. Smith is getting his piss warmed up.

Cohen has a difficult decision to make. I think Pruitt is probably the best fit and easily brings the most to the table when it comes to recruiting.

On the other hand, when it comes to directing the program, it's really hard to me not to go with an offensive guy. With a defensive HC you really have to pay an OC to stay and keep some consistency. Can't have much turnover because it's so difficult to go through offensive scheme changes.

In the past I would agree, but in today's world I don't think you plan to have any continuity beyond the life cycle of the first recruiting class (at the most) at any program from an AD's perspective. The potential Pruitt/Friend combo add an interesting dynamic. With Friend growing up an hour down the road, if they are successful there's a good chance we've got our next head coach already on staff if Pruitt leaves in a few years.

Moorhead is a serious contender for the job according to Rosebowl. I think the pecking order right now is
T1. Pruitt
T1. Moorhead
3. Morris
4. Venables

I’m a big fan of Moorhead. Think he will be a good hire but any of the top 4 work for me

Miles and Neil Price would be a good combo in the booth.

I sense it's gonna be Moorehead.

Home run hire, imo. Will need a solid DC & staff, with good recruiting ties, tho.

Starting to sound that way. Think it's between him and Pruitt but I've heard Moorhead absolutely killed it in the interview process.

This is why you interview all the candidates, regardless of how the first one does. Yesterday I would have sworn Pruitt had the job (and he may yet).

I'd rather have Pruitt just because of the staff I think he would bring in. Moorhead would be more of a gamble but I wouldn't be disappointed if we hired him

Morehead is a brilliant guy. Outstanding modern OC acumen that's the right fit for MSU, and plenty of HC experience, tho at an FCS school. He's been the difference maker at PSU. Stability on the offensive side is more critical than defensive side. With Pruitt or Venables, you could have W/L success disruptions due to OC turnover.
