Summary: Looks like Moorhead, Venables, and Pruitt are still the front runners.
Supposedly all 3 killed their interviews.

Cohen is doing his due diligence and interviewing all candidates, apparently there are several but below are the hot names that seem to be the most likely to get the gig.

-----------------------------

Update: Penn State OC Joe Moorhead is a new name emerging who has or will interview.

Update: Chad Morris another name of interest. Seems to be further down the pecking order but a solid target nonetheless.

Update: Have officially interviewed Venables and, as with Pruitt, talks have been in the works for a week or more. Smoke still looks like Pruitt gets the nod.

-----------------------------

Jeremy Pruitt is the big name on the board. Consensus is he will try to bring either Chip Lindsey, Billy Napier, or Will Friend on as OC if hired.

Other names that may get interviews are Troy and UAB's coaches, Mike Bobo, Venables, and Todd Monken. But this one feels like it's going to be Pruitt and I think has been in the works since well before Mullen officially took another job.

I could get happy about Friend for this reason alone:

Friend was a Parade Magazine All-America selection as a senior at Neshoba Central High in Philadelphia, Miss.

Pruitt's not splashy but would be a pretty solid hire depending on who he brought on as OC.

Bleh to Bobo and Monken.

Our players and assistants are following Pruitt on Twitter so I think it's probably happening.

Pruitt's a hell of a coach. I've always believed he was a better defensive mind than Kirby. Whether or not he'll be a better head coach remains to seen but I hope he does well there.

Hiring a good OC is a solid start. He has seen Saban, Richt, and Jimbo run programs so he should know how that works.

That's the biggest reason I don't want UAB or Troy's coaches, people underestimate how much goes into running a major program. You're basically the CEO of a company with a couple hundred employees.

Chip Lindsey isn't going to State. His next stop is a HC job.

I am guessing out of those 3 it will probably be Will Friend. CSU has a really good offense under him so pretty solid.

Is he a candidate for the South Alabama job?

I don't think he'll leave Auburn to be a State OC, but some people claim he has a really good relationship with Pruit.

Supposedly he's wanting out, he and Gus don't get along or something like that. Don't shoot the messenger baws.

This would be my top pick of the 3.

Plus he is from Philly, MS so you know he wants to come back and chill at the Neshoba County Fair.

There was some talk of that earlier in the year but the last few weeks have improved that relationship quite a bit.

AU would outbid MSU and of Lindsey wants to be a head coach AU will be a better situation to do that. I wonder how Pruitt will fair fielding a Defense of mostly 3 stars and juco guys?
