Man I wish this stuff would get over. No new news on rivals today. Hearing word Ferentz is 99% no go. Again as stated...I have no inside info....just all the time in the world to cruise sites :P

Loyd Carr is a broken down bitter old douchebag but I gotta think he couldn't be that big of one.

I think the other story about it today being a faked source on voice mail holds more water than this one.

Michigan, Les Miles and ESPN............ (Posted on 12/1 at 11:45 p.m.)
so imagine if you are someone VERY high up at Michigan that desperately does not want miles to be the next UM HC. what do you do to make certain that Miles isnt the UM HC?

Answer: you try to frick him and embarrass him on the day he plays for the SEC CG. How do you do it? You call someone who trusts you and will take what you say and run with it. Someone like the tOSU/ESPN Golden Boy Kirk Herbstreit.

So not only do you guarantee Miles wont be the next UM coach by creating a situation where you embarrass him on the biggest day of his coaching life and make him DENY UM, you get to embarrass herbstreit and ESPN in the process.

Somebody very high up at Michigan won the coaching search poker game today and had a double win (eliminating Miles once and for all and completely embarrassing Herbie) in the process.

i said this on Tuesday and I may have been pretty close to the mark:

quote:

here is what I speculate happened:

Mike Debord was rehired by Lloyd Carr at Michigan after he went 12-34 at Central Michigan, so he owes him. Plus there was a lot of rumors that the next head coach was going to be pressured to keep some UM coaches and Debord is supposedly one of them. Add to that Carr got his asst coaches an extra year of salary and they really owe him.

So the Carr camp doesnt want Miles, they need to do something to make sure it isnt Miles and the rumors are a tentative agreement is in place with Miles for after the SECCG. I am speculating but it would not surprise me if the following happened:

1) Debord or someone else intensely loyal to Carr contacts Howard and says not only is Miles coming but he will be on his 2008 staff. This confirms what Howard knows from the UM Coaching search committee. Keep in ind that the AD at Cincy said that when he was contacted for permission to speak to Brian Kelly, it was Lloyd Carr himself who called on behalf of Michigan. So Carr is obviously on the UM coaching search committee too.

2) Howard tells Herbie what Debord or whomever told him and confirms that the Miles deal is in place. Howard doesnt want to be the person who breaks the story because he is involved with the UM search and he doesnt want to be accused of a conflict of interest from his Michigan associates.

3) So Herbie needs a second confirmation and he calls Debord or whomever it is that spoke to Howard and gets a 2nd confirmation directly from the UM Asst Coach. Because Herbie has a second confirmation from a direct source, he doesnt need to name Desmond Howard as his source to his ESPN Gameday producer and Howard can stay above the fray and not have a conflict of interest between UM and ESPN.

4) Herbie makes his statement Saturday morning, embarrassing Miles in the process, and the Carr camp/LSU has boxed Miles in a corner. So Miles has to choose what direction to go in. he has the three LSU contract offers in hand, he is pissed at UM and the way they are handling him on the biggest day of his coaching life, so he chooses the best LSU contract (the one for before the SECCG), has his press conference and debunks herbie and denies his UM intentions which eliminates him from consideration for the UM job forever. The AntiMiles/Carr camp at UM wins the battle and the tOSU/ESPN golden boy is humiliated.

5) Herbie realizes he has been duped by the Carr camp at UM, calls Miles Saturday night after the SECCG and apologizes and also allegedly named his UM source to Miles. After that, Miles has the emotional PC where he talks about how sad he is he cant be in two places and he will not be going back to Michigan. Miles understands that even though he may want to be at UM, the powers that be dont want him and it hurts him. But the consolation is he a hero to an entire state and he has made himself a rich man through loyalty to LSU.

I had a feeling LC was the leak this weekend. When LC leaked the info it most likely told Miles he was in for a hard time at Mich. He would never be able to turn his back on anyone already there. LC would be constantly out to undermine him. So LM said F LC and UM I got a better gig here anyway. Maybe this was the revelation to Miles this Saturday. You can never go home! LM was at home in Baton Rouge.
The more I hear about UM the more it sounds like BAMA and the bama mofia!

Really. You would think heads should roll at UM but sounds like nothing of the sort will happen. UM faithful must be extremely pissed at what's happening.

Sounds like a big uproar from Miles supporters/former players about this.

Look for a March for Miles in Ann Arbor led by Dierdorf and Wangler on Schembechler Hall as they surround Bill Martin and apply some pressure

frick Lloyd Carr. I have no doubt he was involved in this in some way. It may not be exactly as told above, but he did not want Les to get the job and he made sure it wouldn't happen. I really do feel for Les. His dream has been shattered because Lloyd is a piece of shite. Oh well, he can stay at LSU and win titles and put up records none of our coaches ever has.

I agree..on one hand, I feel for Les because I know if it was up to him, he'd be at Michigan right now. But, on the other hand, Lloyd's dislike for him results in us benefiting from Les' phenomenal coaching

Former UM player. Bo protege'. One of the top coaches in the country. Current UM adminstration bungles his hiring - then he beats the freakin Buckeyes a few weeks later and wins the national title. The irony may actually cause the state of Michigan to implode.

It may be a delayed reaction...

While winning one crystal football by beating Ohio State may make the lettermen want to lynch Bill Martin, Les winning numerous SEC titles and making multiple BCS bowl appearances while Michigan sets a record for consecutive, and humiliating, losses to Ohio State could be enough for a full-scale revolt.

I expect a full scare riot.

On UM's Rivals board, there is a former UM player getting folks to e-mail Martin. They may take some more drastic steps and start making death threats.

Classic example of the leaving party should not get to call any shots, the whole you in this position is b/c the calls you have been calling on the field did not go your way. Let's face it our AD,Pres,Chan,BOS "said not so fast my friend" and in end Les gets to say it and live it"Thanks and have a great Day"

Could you imagine if a situation similar to this was happening at LSU? Full scale riots

I feel for Les but he made the right decision for himself. A coach doesn't need to be at a school where someone in the administration is out to undermine you right from the start. at mich. he would constantly have to look over his back to try and see what loyd and his cronies were up to.

If Miles left, we'd probably be seeing it right now.

That's what I was thinking. In the long run, Carr did Miles (and us) a huge favor.

And of course I never say never. Michigan could be crawling back to him when/if the product of the current search doesn't live up to expectations.
