There are hundreds of great offensive minds out there. Losing an OC? Meh. Let’s see who they hire first.

Even it’s Ensminger, let’s not act like the dude doesn’t know offense. It would be majorly disappointing, but the bottom won’t fall out. Will you be elite? No, but you’ll remain a top 25 program.

When? His SR season? I don't understand how he's ok with being backup that long.

I completely agree that obsession over 1 Class is dumb but if you think fans crying about it is why Les wasn’t let go sooner is just as dumb.

quote:

or all the mind-blowing, once in a lifetime talent Les recruited and all the top-rated classes as a whole, his guys never won a natty

Obviously his best team was 2011 and he lost to a better coach with slightly better talent. And for all the grief Les gets for “backing” into the 2007 Saban and Bama backed in in 2011.

quote:

Saban rarely has had guys play on the level of OBJ, Juice, Honey Badger, Fournette, etc and he's won a bunch of natties

Lol wut? He has had 2 Heisman winners and a couple other finalist. Cooper had a better season than any WR LSU ever had except Reed and who was our coach then? He’s won natties by stacking great class after great class

the fact that our HC is so coordinator-dependent and has fired his #1 choice after year 1 is the issue

yeah there is plenty of OC talent in the sea, but (a) will Orgeron pick the right talent and (b) will he let that talent coach?

if O settles on Ensminger, why didn't we just hire Ensminger for 2017? it's insanity that we threw away a year and a year because O...i can't even describe in words how bad of a frickup that would be by O

Justin Fields, too.

I guess when you are running a great program, it doesn’t matter to some guys.

I imagine Hunter Johnson will be transferring before fall. Former 5* at Clemson that was a true freshman this past year.

At least in his case, Fromm is a good bet to go early.

Well when you HC admittedly needs top flight coordinators just to keep his job then you better make sure you make the right hire.

So if you agree there are plenty of other OC options out there why in the flying frick would we hire a guy who doesn’t want the job and hasn’t been an OC in 20 years?

no

he lost to a better scheme

they shut our offense down and didn't even have to take a risk when they had the ball. we were way too dependent on the random big defensive/ST play to provide offense and momentum and if Bama just avoided that, they win (And they knew it)

what offense we had was derailed by Les trying to run JJ out there and then refusing to pull him when he sucked. but-for some defensive/special teams magic (And even then, teh refs gave us a TD we shouldn't have been given), we lose the SECCG because our offense was putrid

quote:

He has had 2 Heisman winners

both RBs who are vastly inferior to LF7

one got it b/c Saban ran him into the ground the same year LF7 was much better as a RB

the other got it with a so-so year for Heisman standards. Ingram won it b/c Bama was #1 and they felt they had to give it to a Bama player. he was a good college RB but he wasn't some elite, historical RB like LF7 was

Oh, trust me. I’m there with you. If Aranda left, I was all in on Boom Muschamp (ducks) for 2019. One down year with O, a 9-10 win for USC, Will would have been my target.

Every head coach meddles in the offense. It’s their job. Now, it’s not what O promised, but if someone believed that pitch, then they’re a fool (Alleva).

quote:

if O settles on Ensminger, why didn't we just hire Ensminger for 2017?

If that’s who O truly wanted, then a valid question.

I agree.

Oregeron has literally never been trusted by another coach to run a defense. in what world does he have any ounce of authority over how to run an offense? it's the height of insanity that he's allowed any input due to his intelligence/coaching limitations (not my assessment. that's based on the assessment of all HCs he's been under during his career)

and if you want a good example of a coach with legit expertise on one side ignoring the other, look at McVay for the Rams.

shite if they think 2017 was rebuilding, what are we going to do next year?

1. new QB
2. new RB (nothing elite to work with, either)
3. new WRs (who have talent but haven't shown technical ability/development yet)

oh, and an entirely new fricking offense trying to deal with these issues and possibly lots of shuffling on the OL

our D should be salty as frick (even if Jackson and Tolliver follishly leave) but then in 2019, assuming our O doesn't have to rebuild again under a new offense, our D is going to lose a LOT

Mark Ingram & Henry were fine backs.

Bama RBs have to be treated like QBs in the NFL and brought along over a few years to teach them how to be RBs

They’ve had more success than LSU backs tho

Isn’t that a product of better coaching? In the BCSCG they relied on Mccarron a lot more and how many D/ST TDs has Bama scored over the years? How many games in a row did they have one btwn 15-16?

I don’t want to rehash the JJ/JL debacle but if he doesn’t pull Lee on 11/5/11 we don’t win that game. But yes scheme and philosophy doomed us in that game. Believe it or not Stud wanted to do some different things in the NC but Les didn’t let them

Sabes has won a couple games like that too, see Ole Miss 2016.

I don’t know what you’re talking about I mean no comment.

Fair enough. In college I always thought TR was better than Ingram
But he’s had some dynamic play makers. No one was like Mathieu but Fitzpatrick is freaking every where it seems and ultimately he just has more talent stacked.

Next year we’ll have our best defense since 2011. Fehoko, Lawrence and Rougarou — teams ain’t moving those three.

1. new QB

We’ll be inexperienced, but it’s not like there’s some big drop off.

2. new RB

Here there will be a big drop off.

3. new WRs

Jonathan Giles would have been the best WR on this year’s team. Look out for little Jefferson too. Kid can play.

Experienced OLine. Just all depends on the QB play.

i'm talking about LF7 in this thread

you think Ingram is going to finish with a better career than LF7?

and Ingram is all that Bama has, essentially. Henry finally started late in year 2, but only because of injury. maybe they'll cut murray in the offseason and henry can finally become an RB1

LOL

O is about to sign one of the worst classes of the last ten years. We only have one player in the top 100 (2 in the top 200). And The majority are rated in the 300s or lower.

But I'm sure recruiting will pick after we add Ensminger and Jerry Sullivan to the staff

My take on 2017 has been consistent long before we even played a game

16 guys from last years team were in nfl camps, 3 who were first Rd picks

On top of that We played 24 freshmen this year.

On top of that our best players were hurt half of the year.

So youre replacing nfl caliber players with young players, and the guys you counted on to ease that transition were injured (Guice, Key, Lawrence to name a few).

I don’t understand why people can’t be realistic about 2017.

Why can’t people address these things in a vacuum before they assess the season by record alone?

We say this every year.

O was talking about the CFB playoffs this time last year.
