The main reason the SEC "frowned" at the possibility of Freeze...

...back in the SEC this year was to discourage anyone from hiring him before Bama had the opportunity. Nick knew he'd possibly need an OC but wouldn't be able to search for one until after the title game. Nobody talking to HF because, LORD FORBID, the SEC wouldn't be happy about it. So what happens? Saban swoops right in and gets the first crack at him.

I would secretly love to see how the whole Pentecostal snake oil salesman Freeze bit would have gone over with Saban. Saban's been remarkable successful in the South for being non-religious.
