NO one else has named a new DC. Maybe Kiffin, but that his daddy and it's still not announced. IMO a lot of these potential DC's are waiting on MILES... it's the best talent ready and waiting, and they'd want to go there if they possibly can.

This is just flat out wrong.
Tenuta was there ready for the taking. Miles made the DECISION to hire Mallory (and Peveto). Was it a poor decision? Absolutely. Was he a victim of being slow? No.

DING! DING! DING! ... and Miles has a stellar rep amongst the coaching fraternity in this regard. No harm in trying to help the guy[s] you have to replace save a little public face by getting them positions elsewhere.
"You're fired!" plays lots better on Trump's old reality show, by far, than it generally does when replacing assistant FB coaches ... especially since there is that delicate balance of egos to be dealt with, nowhere more so than in CFB coaches at all levels.

You're right. I misread it. Guess I just assumed no one would ever suggest a college defense is simple, even if it produces results like what we saw this year.

Uh, yes, yes he did. I understand the rationale behind it in keeping a system in place that all of the coaches and players were familiar with. But, overall, the dual promotion was a HUGE mistake/disaster.
And, in thinking a complete defensive package/scheme change could be installed prior to the bowl game, I think not. Way too much info to grasp in 3 weeks. Now, he probably can refine and even (gasp!) disguise some of the current coverage and blitz packages and make them more effective.
I'm simply hoping the hire is made prior to the bowl game to give a little infusion of energy and confidence to the embattled defense. Not a must in my opinion unless we see many of the DC candidates rumored to be in the running signing at other schools. And at the present time, that isn't happening.
Miles is fully aware of the magnitude of this decision. He already got his mulligan on the Mallveto promotion. Let's hope he makes the right hire this time.

Actually, it as a good bit of both. Miles had his nose in the Michigan job rather than focusing on our d coordinator.

That's ridiculous.
The Michigan scenario was decided prior to the season's end and within days of Pelini being named Nebraska head coach.
Miles made a terrible decision. But, it wasn't a "screw up". He didn't botch the search. For whatever reason, no matter how flawed, Miles wanted Mallory. It was a terrible decision. But, call it what it is.

Like he screwed up winning 11 games in 2006 including a BCS bowl win?
Like he screwed up winning 12 games, an SEC championship, and a NC in 2007 while being the only LSU coach to ever beat Fla, Aub, and Bama in the same year?
He's had one major decision that he could be called out on and tons of great ones, yet you choose to believe he will "screw up". Thanks for the loyalty.

No ... all the names being mentioned would be significant upgrades. From what I read, Koennig isn't aggressive enough to suit me ... not sure Chavis is either. I think I would favor Tenuta. Maybe this coaching staff needs a prick (like Saban).

Look, I am HUGE supporter of Miles. The bottom line is that he fricked up the decision last year....period. The longer he fricks around with this decision this year then the better chance there is he fricks it up again. If these candidates that have been mentioned are interested in the job then make the damn hire and let's get on with it.
