As a native of this state, I emphatically agree with you. Most people in this state cannot accept something that isn't familiar to them. if really is pitiful and the state suffers for it.

To your point about the coach, yes many people who support O do so only because he is a "coonass" who says "geaux tigers" at the end of every interview. They think his being a local can overcome his deficiencies and make excuses for them. Just like they make excuses for shitty infrastructure, poor academic performance, corrupt politicians, and tragic socioeconomic existence. This state, I'm afraid, is doomed to mediocrity or worse.

Politically and economically speaking...

Your attitudes are indicative of why this state hasn't moved forward in 30 plus years. You're all so God damn petrified that an "outsider" might come in and change something up, and you'll be forced to accept a new line of thinking.

You want to keep coach O because he doesn't intellectually frighten you. Keeping a guy because he caters to your insecurity doesn't qualify him to be a head coach. Simply put, he's familiar. He's something you can identify with. Hell, he might even eat some turtle gumbo with yaw.

It's the same reason you've elected the same shite-arse, corrupt politicians for the past... hell ever... and it's the same reason our entire shitty economy is circulated around the "awl field".

You reject any sort of industry, economy, or line of thinking that requires stepping outside of your antiquated line of thought, and that's why this state will never move forward.

You're fueling a fire that will lead to LSU making a shite hire, and back to being a mid-tier program.

OP, you caught me off guard at first, I thought I was on the Political Board. All you need to do is replace any references to Coach O with Trump & your rant is almost identical to those of the liberals on that other board. Since you feel it's ok to judge me, my family, my friends, my professional acquaintances, it's perfectly ok to judge yu in return. So you are an ignorant snob & hate us simply because we have a different opinion than you of the "elites".

Holy Enormous Sea of Generalities, Batman !

I am a native New Yorker, have a degree from The Old War Skule, have lived abroad and in numerous states and I see the common sense appeal of Coach O. It's not because he appeals to a parochial insecurity, it's because he's likeable, is a legendary recruiter, is respected in his industry and did a reasonably good job "flipping the script" after Les was fired.

Your concerns about Coach O have merit but you over-stated your case. And came across as insufferably condescending to LSU fans in the process.

I get your point. And yes, I guess it may come across that way but it's needed. The O crowd won't listen to reason.

Holy Crap.

Is this about the "Common Man" versus the "Elites"?

Is winning football games really "elite" now?

You'd rather have someone relatable than someone who will actually win games?

Trump has infected your mind.

The upvotes are speaking for themselves. OP is right about O and right about the unwillingness to adapt of Louisiana. The only goddamn part of the state that's evolved in the last 50 years is NOLA, and it took one of the worst natural disasters in history to spur it. Oh and guess what? A huge portion of that evolution is happening because of "outsiders." IN FACT, I would say the rebirth of NOLA would have never even HAPPENED if it wasn't for the "outsiders" that came here to save the city. God knows the rest of the state wasn't getting off their arse to help. Hell, it took me moving there for college to do anything, myself.

I don't understand why so many Louisiana people think it's "this" or "that." We can marry the old with the new. An outsider can adopt LSU's tradition just as much a Coach O can. I would like to believe Coach O can adapt just as much as a native Louisianian, but the Bama and Florida losses say otherwise.

I'm picking up what the OP is dropping but we've had "outsiders" as coaches of LSU football for pushing two generations until O so the rant, while entertaining, does factually break down after a point.

You are absolutely correct, OP. Do what you did with Saban: find a guy from the North who wasn't raised with all of this good ol' boy BS and who has had success at other programs. Herman fits that to a T.
