That trio still remains in focus, with sources indicating that a thorough vetting of Kelly has begun. That includes calls to NFL executives to do general background on Kelly and exploration of his NCAA issues at Oregon.

I'd like to see the chaos that would ensue from both Tenn and FLorida going after Kelly. Knowing that the SEC has to give permission on him, I think a riot would ensue if one school was allowed but another was not.

Really think the Gators could do better than Chip Kelly. I'm serious when I say Frost or Taggart would be a better hire.

Both men have shown they can recruit Florida and field a high-octane offense.

Kelly does not like to recruit. Under Chip, Florida would be a better Arkansas under Petrino.

Why does the SEC have to give permission on him?

This narrative is tired and needs to die.

Your beef is not with me. It is with Chip Kelly himself...

Chip Kelly doesn’t miss his recruiting days at all

Posted by Darin Gantt on November 23, 2013, 9:32 AM EST

The Eagles have a bye this weekend, close to the time when coach Chip Kelly was used to wrapping up regular seasons at Oregon.

But Kelly said this week there’s no way he’d trade another five weeks of regular season for the “break” that usually came before he’d take the Ducks to a bowl game in January.

“My schedule, the day the season was over, was a lot worse than my schedule here because you’re planes, trains and automobiles recruiting from Sunday night until Friday afternoon and hustling back and practicing, getting a practice in Friday afternoon, practice Saturday, practice Sunday, get back on a plane and fly around the country chasing down recruits,” he said, via Sheil Kapadia of PhillyMag.com. “Maybe a misconception is when you’re a college coach and the last game is done and then the bowl game comes, you don’t have a month off. I would argue my schedule was more hectic from a recruiting standpoint than it was here.

“So I’m looking forward to being in the office every day and watching tape. That is the fun part of our job.”

Kelly would rather be drawing Xs and Os or researching ways to make his team better than criss-crossing the country convincing teenagers to wear a dozen different uniforms a year.

While many college coaches have failed miserably making the transition, his preference for the football could be the thing that enables him to succeed where so many of his brethren have failed.

Who the hell actually likes recruiting? You'd have to be insane to like it.

Travel cross country, miss time with your family to go kiss some prima donna 18 year olds arse?

He's just being honest. I imagine a lot of the ones that are good at it don't actually like to do it.

Christmas is coming early this year for agents. The SEC is going have at least two (likely 4) HC openings (Ark and A&M to come). All four AD's will have mandates to spend money to appease desperate fan bases. And that's just in the SEC!

It is a big time sellers market! Is there a consensus #1 guy out there? I doubt Saban, Meyer, Swinney, Harbaugh, Ogeron (lol) are looking to go anywhere. So you are about to have a ton of desperate teams looking to hire from a pool of guys who have done very well in their careers, but none who are perceived slam dunks. The leveraging and publicity put out by the agents/desperate boosters will be incredible.

This will be a fun two months

SEC defenses figured out Chip's offense a while ago. I don't think he wants to come to this conference.

I don't disagree, but any coach who wants to be successful in CFB probably wouldn't admit that publicly.

For something he didn't like to do he was quite good at it.

I genuinely don't understand this mindset.

Chip Kelly is an elite coach on the same level as guys like Urban Myer and Chris Petersen.

I sincerely hope Florida doesn't hire him. For LSU, having to deal with Kelly and Saban every year would be a nightmare.

Whew. I was very concerned that UF would get Scott Frost.
