Jimbo or Herman with Aranda please

Herman may very well end up being the better coach
Entirely possible. You're buying upside with Herman. You're hopeful that he's the star coach he's being touted as. We don't yet know if he can maintain a top flight program. If the LSU administration interviews him and feels confident that he's the man for the job, I'd be more than on board because I think he's a fine coach.
Like you said, I have more confidence in Jimbo. He's just got a more tangible body of work and I feel good about him being successful at LSU.

Zero chance the school is going to pay Jimbo's buyout, Miles' buyout, FSU suppprt staff buyout, Cam's buyout, Jimbo and company's new salary, and jeopardize losing Aranda.
No chance Jimbo is the HC at LSU next season.

What make Fisher fans think he could recruit on the level of Saban? or are we just going to be satisfied being the second tier team in the SEC west?

No one recruits like Saban.
Fisher can recruit just as well as Miles though which is plenty good enough.

plenty good enough for what?

HOw do we know that? Maybe a Herman or Fleck at LSU would be able to recruit like Saban.
I would be OK with a Fisher hire and feel fairly confident he, with Aranda, could easily out coach Saban and Kiffen, but I don't know if he is going to be able to get anywhere close to the quality of players Saban can get.
I just don't see us getting anywhere with that. In college football recruiting is where it all starts and ends for the most part. You just have to be competent at the rest of it. Being great at the rest of it is a bonus that gives you an edge and can at times make up for talent in some instances, but is not sustainable.

According to 247 recruiting rankings
2016: FSU 2 LSU 3
2015: FSU 3 LSU 6
2014: FSU 4 LSU 2
2013: FSU 11 LSU 6
2012: FSU 3 LSU 14
2011: FSU 2 LSU 8
2010: FSU 7 LSU 8
Well he's landed better classes than LSU in 5 of his 7 years as head coach so there's that.
To put it bluntly, teenage football players are bandwagon as frick. That's why Alabama is racking up 5 star talent 2 deep on the depth chart. Want to knock off the Saban machine? Win a few national championships and suddenly it'll be en vogue to play for the Tigers.

so you think he will land better classes at LSU than he landed at FSU, because he will have to. He'll have to do better than the: 2,3,4,11 that he did in his last 4 classes

Jimbo has always been my guy. He checks all the boxes.
He is the home run hire.
You go after him like Michigan went after Haurbaugh IMO.
In other words...you don't let him say no.

No idea. My point is that I'd be unconcerned with Jimbo's recruiting ability if he came to LSU. He's proven to be a fine recruiter. I'm not eaten up with shortsighted little brother "BUT SABAN!" syndrome.
What Alabama is doing is unprecedented. It's hard to beat Saban, its hard to out recruit Saban. But Nick is 65 years old. He's not going to be there forever. LSU's responsibility is to hire a coach that brings the best long term outlook for LSU. I'm not going to irrationally hold a new coach to the Saban scale.
It would be completely irrational to hire a new coach based on "Can he beat Saban" and "Can he out recruit Saban". Because there's few to zero coaches who can consistently accomplish that.

The thing that I question about Jimbo is that he brings in great recruiting classes, but still loses 3 games a year unless he has a Heisman winner at quarterback. And that's in the ACC. Will LSU fans be happy with a hugely talented roster and 3 losses?
Also, does Aranda stay if Jimbo is hired? I don't know.

Well said. There is no Saban equivalent currently out there and it's likely that there will never be one. We just have to make the best possible hire we can and see where he can take us.
That said, I don't see how anyone can look at Jimbo and have questions about his recruiting ability.

I mean like it or not, we ARE 2nd fiddle to Alabama. Damn our own bad luck that we have to share a conference and division with the bastard but that's where we are. I mean we're trying to knock off a coach who will likely tie or even exceed Bryant for most national championships. I've conceded that fact and hope to find a coach who can be a consistent winner and find a way to pull an upset to get by them in a big year like we did in 2011.

Obviously a new coach would like to bring in his own staff. But I don't see how any coach worth his salt would come in and run off Dave Aranda based on his results with LSU and what he's previously proven. He should have a guaranteed spot on any Coaches staff

BINGO. Jimbo under performs worse than Miles did. So they both had a national championship within the last ten years, plus they both have top ranked recruiting classes year in and year out. Remove Winston and he's an annual 8-4 to 9-3 head coach.
And NO. Aranda is a gone Pecan if the administration makes the monumental mistake of bringing Jimbo here. Think outside the box and know that he would jump at going to Texas with his old buddy Herman as D.C. with an open checkbook. The only chance you have keeping Aranda is promoting him to HC or keeping him under CEO.

This is pure speculation.

You also cannot dictate which support staff will stay to a new head coach. No top tier guy will come to a place that does this. Granted Aranda may be the best in the league, head coaches have egos to contend with.
You either open the bank and tell the next guy that no one is off limits or you deal with what you have and determine the pieces that need to be in place to make it better.

quote:So Aranda would only stay if Orgeron was the coach but wouldn't if Jimbo was and wanted to keep him? That is retarded. He's known coach O for all of 9 months and was his superior on the staff until a month and a half ago. He has no more allegiance to O than he would a super respected offensive guy like Fisher. There is a good chance Fisher would want to keep him.
