His agent (Jimmy Sexton) is just trying to drum up some leverage in a year where there were no "big" college jobs out there you could plausibly sell as a possible threat to UGA to take Smart.
In fact, other than the NFL, Smart really has no way to reasonably create leverage. He's at a premier school who is willing to pay big money. Oh, and that school also happens to be his alma mater. Unless you think Smart would be willing to dump his alma mater for a better college job, then "NFL rumors" are all he has to float
