I guess my problem would be the fact that we'd be giving a megadeal to a dude who has a .620 win percentage at Mizzou, despite some pretty bad schedules.

The other options are Kiffin (who has a terrible record against ranked teams if that’s the criteria), 75 year old Nick Saban, a G5 coach, or a bunch of dudes that have never been a head coach.

My only point throughout this thread is the narrative that ONLY Drink is bad against ranked teams. Every coach in the country has a losing record against ranked teams, except the ones who would never leave where they’re at

I think the knock on him is many believe his teams are soft. However our defensive coordinator (Baker) came from Missouri. Go figure.

I could overlook the record, if that were the only thing. For instance with Kiffin, you know he's going to run a good offense and could likely retain much of our talent and recruit well. I'm not sure Drinkwitz could. Kiffin has also won 10% more of his games vs tougher schedules.

If I'm gambling on Drink, I'd rather take a shot at a cheaper G5 coach.

This is all fair and that’s the reason Kiffin is the number one candidate in the market

I’m not so sure about this though. You’ve already had two beautiful disasters in a row at LSU. Drink at least seemingly brings stability and a floor to the program. The guy has won nearly 70% of his games as a head coach and I think people forget how much of a mess mizzou was when he took over. They had all the race bullshite in 2015 and pinkel retried then a bowl ban and scholarship reduction in 2019.

Again, the guy isn’t perfect, but of all the coaches willing to move, he has one of the better tract records

Has he ever beaten a good time in a meaningful game in the entire time he has been at Missouri?

I get it, but define generation.

Because I'm not that old and remember this guy:

Missouri head football coach Eli Drinkwitz has a record of \(0-6\) against ranked Southeastern Conference (SEC) teams over the past two seasons.

Dan Lanning wasn't "Elite" when he was hired. You never know who has that in them until you see them. Except Drink. No thank you.

Winless since 2020 against SEC teams that finished with a winning record.

You keep throwing this statement out on every Drink thread and it's disingenuous. Aside from 2024, there were no more than 5 SEC teams out of 14 that had winning conference records by year's end since 2020 and almost all were top 10 teams.

You can see the improvement in the Mizzou program since he stepped into it. He's elevated Mizzou into a legitimate tier 2 SEC program. This is pretty much the cap of what you can expect Mizzou to do in the SEC. They won't compete with UGA, Bama, Texas, etc. on a year-to-year basis because the recruiting base and resources aren't there. His results as a coach show he's moved the program forward.

2020: Finished 5-5 (5-5) - hard to gauge success during COVID year
2021: Finished 6-7(3-5)
2022: Finished 6-7 (3-5)
2023: Finished 11-2 (6-2)
2024: Finished 10-3 (5-3)
2025: Currently 6-3 (2-3) played Bama to a 3-point game, lost to Vandy by 7 with 2 min. left, and lost to aTm with a backup freshman QB after their starter was injured against Vandy.

Mizzou is a bottom quartile SEC program and yet under Drink, they're success rate since 2020 has been on par with Texas a&m, Tennessee, and LSU, all of whom we believe are better programs.

The reality is the main argument against Drink is that he looks nerdy. When you listen to the sports shows that actually talk with other coaches and they ask about Drink, all of them talk about how good of a coach he is and given the right resources, could be phenomenal.

I am not advocating for Drink to be the LSU coach. I think he will end up at Penn St. However, the hate against the guy and blatant ignoring of the success he has had at Mizzou, is crazy to me.

I think Drink would do well at LSU even though everyone here thinks he would suck.

Mizzou has had bottom half of SEC QB play, even in 23’ when they peaked. Cook was decent in 23’ and regressed last year.

He’s proven his offenses can generate a great rushing attack, even with shaky QB play and a lack of threat at receiver this year. How great would it be to just automatically have a top 5 rushing attack in the SEC? That shows scheme and OL development. Both things we’re dying to get back.

He’d never have issues getting top receiving talent here too. Would like to think he could get better QB talent here, and he just signed Zollers who I feel was a higher rated QB prospect than we’ve signed in a while.

He’s had some solid defenses too. Their DL seems to always be a plus.

Lastly I assume he’s not lazy and checked out like our last coach.

100%

I’m not what else is expected at Mizzou. They’re a B tier program and he’s been successful at it with what resources he has.
