I guess. It just seems like Vegas doesn’t get it wrong often. All I was saying is that it’s odd he’s not even listed.

Just a note, but I'm pretty sure that the deadline is important to Woodward's negotiation strategy. If you offer Riley a huge raise and don't give him a lot of time to talk things over with OU, he's more inclined to accept because OU will probably need to mull over the decision to match between the sticker shock and needing to come up with an extra ~$5 million a year. It's definitely playing hardball, but it's also smart.

OU will match immediately if they want to. I don't know where you think they'd go off needing to mull it over. They'll make that decision instantly. You guys act like OU is bums and can't afford that type of coach. They're a blue blood and have deep pocket boosters.

You’re cornering and setting yourself up for major disappointment all for a nomad douchebag that’s had ONE 10 win season outside of Fla Atlantic his entire career.

Don’t know wtf everyone that keeps bringing up Kiffin sees in him.

Maybe he will be super cool and drop a mic with LSU and get his doors blown off against Alabama. This board would epically melt down if he did some stupid shite like that and turn around and get smoked.

Ok, everyone knows Riley has an offer. Who is the Second choice? I am not even sure he is a fit at LSU.

Which is why they do it fast before OU has a chance to figure out how they'd actually nearly double Riley's salary. The reported offered salary is about 5 million more than what OU is paying Riley. That's the entirety of OU's athletic department surplus. That's a 10% increase in their coaching salary expenses. OU booster funding took a disproportionately large hit from covid for whatever reason. These numbers are too big to match "immediately".

Also, we know Woodward is doing this. If it's not a negotiation play, why the hell would he do that rather than start seriously working on a deal with another candidate?

Yeah, only one 10-win season, as long as you ignore the other two 11-win seasons, which happened to be the best seasons in FAU history. Derp.

Todd Graves is throwing in a free Canes franchise. Riley to LSU is on lock.

Well if it’s Riley and you are worried about playoffs, stop worrying. They have Baylor left at Waco, Iowa state and Oklahoma state, plus a probable rematch of one of those in championship game. They are not going to win 4 of those 4.

Well, there is a little bit of a problem with your logic. OU doesnt have to hurry to do anything. They own Riley, per his contract extension.
quote:

OU has the royalty-free right and license to use Riley’s name, likeness and all other publicity rights for any and all advertising/promotional purposes.

Following the expiration or termination of Riley’s employment, Riley “specifically and irrevocably grants University a royalty-free and perpetual license to utilize his name and likeness and all other of Coach’s publicity rights.” The contract states that OU would consult with Riley regarding any post-termination use of the coach’s name and likeness.

Riley didnt make the deadline to get this waived

people say this every year. OU always looks like shite early then goes on a run, the difference this year is that it hasn't resulted in an early loss. Riley is yet to lose a game from November on...until they get pummeled in the playoffs.

All that to say, Woody can't assume the playoffs aren't in the picture.

Riley is in the hunt for a championship game. No one would offer or expect him to accept at this time.
I give a big zero to such a rumor.

Riley might get tired of getting his teeth kicked in during that playoff game..... cause it’s gonna happen this year again.....

And you are in a thread confirming that Woodward is giving Riley a short time limit to respond to the offer. Who cares that it's October? Woodward isn't obligated to hire Riley. He takes the offer or the offer is no longer there. It's not like Riley is going to coach LSU to end the season if he signed the offer sheet right at this very moment.

I see reading is still not your strong suit. If Riley doesn't respond the offer is pulled and Riley doesn't have anything to give to OU to force a raise. That's the whole point. This is literally the only info in the entire topic that's relevant and new. This is not hard and I don't understand why you all aren't getting it.

That clause also seems completely and utterly irrelevant. It says that OU doesn't have to pay Riley a royalty to put him in a gameday hype video and that they may choose to do the same after he leaves. That's it.

I feel pretty confident it wasn’t communicated to Riley in the way OP paraphrased. I’m sure it was more professional/delicate than “you either want it or your don’t and we need to know by X date”

Probably more along the lines of “we absolutely want you and are prepared to make you the highest paid coach in CFB, but we also understand you’ve got a potential playoff team. As I’m sure you understand, we have to make the right move for our program, and we need to move forward - hopefully with you - by ESD. So please let us know by X date so that we can plan accordingly and explore other candidates if necessary”
yep. There's a decision date and execution date... two completely different things.

Keeping in mind these conversations are with the Sicilian Laman mentioned and not directly with his client.
