So Woodward missed on Riley and is now scrambling?

This is what everyone is choosing to believe? I have no clue how hard we went after Riley. I really don't care. What baffles me is that now everyone jumped to the conclusion that Woodward had zero back up plan in place and is "scrambling" and is "lost". That's all I keep reading on this board.
Didn't he have a really good back up plan for the baseball search when his #1 wasn't approved? Didn't he land Mulkey, his first choice? Prior to lsu he usually got who he wanted or had a solid contingency plan in place.
So why is this hire any different? Why would he have decided specifically with the biggest hire of his career he would go in to it with one guy in mind and zero other fall back options? It makes no sense.
What makes you believe things have just spun totally out of control?

It all came out that he didn’t miss on him. Never offered him.
Riley had been working with USC for months. The narrative has been put out on here nowhere else. Agents use media to create the smoke. It’s all about getting their clients more money. Nothing more nothing less.
Comments like yours and others on here that don’t like Woodward or fricking ridiculous.
There are a shite load of trolls on here that still support Orgeron and all his bullshite plus our fans of other programs that want to make LSU look bad. Don’t fall for the bullshite.

People want to believe that he sat around for several weeks, went after Riley and now has nothing.
The reality is that he very likely targeted Riley along with Kelly(we learned that today we reached out early), Fisher and possibly others.
It’s a thorough process. There is no white wale, there is no backup plans. There are candidates you vet and make overtures to and see where it goes.

Going after a coach that’s already shot you down once this late in the process is scrambling. Barring an out of left field hire, he wasted the weeks since O was fired.

I agree with you. When I say back up plan I mean he probably had a preferred target, which may or may not have been Riley, and either got him or moved on to the next.
I just don't understand this narrative that he put all his eggs in the Riley basket and now he will have to hire stoops or BOB. There's no real indicator that is the current situation.
I would say the current situation is more "???" For all of us on this board. People just don't have the patience to wait.

I don't think Woodward is scrambling, we just don't know what's taking so long to announce the hire.
Two possibilities could be:
1. The hire is coaching in a championship game.
2. LSU is holding out for media attention.
I don't understand option 2. All the waiting is gonna do is hurt recruiting. I know in any coaching change, recruiting is going to take a hit regardless, but you could at least stop some of the bleeding. Florida wasted no time and couldn't wait to announce Napier as their new guy.

The “scrambling speculation” is completely fan driven. Fans are basing this on multiple tier one positions being filled with fan favorites meanwhile the coaching pool shrinks/getting more competitive and LSU has a lot of recruiting to get out in front of.
If you base anything Scott has done, especially at LSU, he’s made some pretty incredible hires that produced. It’s been fun baiting some folks during this process though. Lol
