Auburn is a better job. So you turn that down and go to Tennessee which is the Nebraska of the SEC?

only reason I can think of is, his hometown is less than 100 miles from UT's campus

It's been well documented that he was told he wouldn't have full control of his staff hirings at Auburn. So he told them to piss off

They are going to let Steele run it this year and take their time hiring a coach. It's what I expect anyways

Also, easier conference with less pressure.

Definitely the same conference with the same amount of pressure.

it's a better job than Auburn because they're fully flushing the program. if they let him build it the way saban came in and flushed the good ole boy network at LSU, he can really put his stamp on it.

auburn was gonna try to keep steele and just install napier, pat him on the head and say "hey we have our shite settled here, you just fix the offense"

Fulmer's gone. that whole network can be reset. if you do it right, it can be a great thing, and if you're that type of guy it's a hell of an opportunity.

We never talked to Billy. Harsin/Venables/Mario was asked to submit a plan. Venables backed out. Mario wanted to stay at Oregon. Our AD wanted Harsin from the start from past relationships. Napier would have been next if those three hadn't worked.

Posters on here still don’t understand when a coach pulls his name out it’s usually because he has been told he isn’t in the running. Napier seems to be a good coach but the team is built on transfers not from high school. In the past that was a huge red flag. Now with the portal probably less so

Tennessee is one of the better jobs in the SEC. it’s just been an absolute dumpster fire since Fulmer has been the AD.

Tennessee back competing with everyone else for recruits in the SE would go a long way for leveling the playing fields as far as rosters go, IMO

Bama gets who they want for foreseeable future.

Would just steal talent from elsewhere in SEC

dude seems somewhat picky, so i'm not sure why he would go to UT in their current state. but danny white might be able to convince him.

I don’t think this is happening. This is the best recruiting class on the state of Tennessee in a long time. They are already going to struggle to keep those players in state. Doing this is going to make it even harder.

And yet UT has hired and retained Steele, the main guy that he was going to have to keep if he went to AU.
