First game of the season. Texas may suck, but the talent gap between the players of Texas and UL is huge.

Most of you wouldn't even know who he was or care about him if he didn't coach at ULL. This is just like the O fanatics in 2016.

That’s not true. Any coach that turns around a shite program is known. He’s also on the list for several P5 jobs. Anyone who watches football knows who he is.
Also, not comparable to O. Coach O wasn’t successful as a head coach before.

I'm not sure how you can make this argument and then say that his record in the Sun Belt will translate to the SEC. If the talent gap between the P5 and Sunbelt is so large that ULL can't be expected to compete with Texas, then Napier hasn't shown he can compete with anything remotely looking like P5 talent. You can't have it both ways.

Yet a guy like Herman at Houston was able to get those types of wins. This is my point. I'm not against Napier but if it is him we have missed on a ton of better options. There are much better proven coaches LSU can hire. Objectively he shouldn't be at the top of anyone's list. He should be the floor because what we will look like next year will be a big question mark if he is hired

I think he would be a good coach at any school playing similar talent. He’s 5th on my list for LSU.
But, he’s far from a terrible hire. His players show up to play.

I agree. If we hire him we missed on a bunch of great coaches. It’ll be melt worthy in the sense that we can’t hire who we want. But from a coaching standpoint, he’s not worth melting over.

Yet a certain vocal portion of this board thought he was the answer. Now we have a section of this board who wants to take a coach has never been a HC in the P5 and put him in charge of LSU above proven p5 coaches. It's insanity.

And he got curb stomped by a Texas team that couldn't beat Kansas.
So you really think that Texas team is the same one that played Week 1?

If he was the coach at Wyoming, would anyone want him as the coach at LSU?

Have you ever watched them play? If not, I recommend it. His teams are very well coached.
Again, he’s 5th on my list.

In CFP? No
The coaches and AP polls don’t count for shite anymore. It’s all about CFP. Secondly when you play the 87th rank strength of schedule that’s what happens. You get a ranking but it doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Napier may do well here but there's plenty of examples of these types of coaches flaming out at the next level.
There are plenty of examples of other types of coaches flaming out in P5 as well:
1. Mike Riley seemed like a solid hire to Nebraska after 12 years at Oregon St. Epic failure.
2. Charlie Strong had Louisville rolling and was terrible at Texas
3. Sarkesian has flamed out twice despite being a Power 5 guy.
4. Lane Kiffin has jumped to a few Power 5 programs, leaving ashes in his wake, and folks still take chances on him.
There are examples to support both sides both for and against. You just try to find great coaches while they are experienced enough to understand the scope of the responsibility but still young enough to be hungry.

And any one of these teams would skulldrag ULL

Maybe he'll finally win his conference this year.
And if he does (you probably blame Napier for the Covid cancel last year) you’ll spew maybe he’ll win the natty one day to move the goalpost.
Any accomplishment at ULL shouldn’t require a goalpost move.

Yeah coach hiring is mostly a crapshoot. Unless you strike gold with a saban or meyer coming back on the job market.

USL played one power 5 team and got destroyed. A 4-7 Texas team. Not impressed
