Per the MSU 247 message board, Memphis HC Mike Norvell will NOT be a candidate for the MSU job and also likely not for the Arkansas job either due to some things that were found in his background during a vetting process.

Nobody knows for sure what it is but it has to be something pretty major for him to lose the chance to get a head job in the SEC.

Anybody in the know have an idea of what the issue might be with Norvell? Because he is one heck of a HC in my book.

That was thrown out by a poster, but if that is the case how was he hired at Memphis??? Especially with Memphis being less than 30 miles from Casinos in Tunica, MS

This picture of him surfaced. Does MSU really want a white guy who thinks cornrows are an acceptable haircut running their program?

Our moral high ground AD just got fired. We are ready to operate like a true SEC program now.

Norvell is 3rd or 4th on the Hogs' pecking order right now.

Not sure if the gambling deal is accurate. But an SEC job is higher profile and more scrutiny.

I’m curious as to what could be a disqualifier for taking over at a mid tier SEC program.

I doubt there is anything on the level of Sandusky or Briles out there on him.

Gambling has already been covered so the next level of problem would have to be substance abuse like a Sarkisian-level drinking problem.

People keep saying gambling, but I don’t know how he got to where he is if these are true. Unless gambling occurred while at Memphis.

Also, I wonder if he’s just a gambler like Barkley and other uber competitive people or if there are implications of betting on NCAA sports or something.

Thats something that crossed my mind as well. Maybe priors of possession with intent to distribute

Wasn’t this started by Ole Miss or an OM message board?

Could they have been upset he wasn’t interested and turned them down?

Ole Miss immediately took him off the list after he was vetted. Pretty telling that we are about to get hammered and even we wouldn't touch him

That’s exactly what happened, the gambling thing is a myth and it was put out by Ole Miss because they were mad he said no thanks.

Memphis is a better football job than OM.

I’d agree with that because of the NCAA investigation right now.
