Schumann...Should at least get an interview...

Should at least get an interview...why?
1. Kirby's 1st hire at UGA
2. Kirby's proclaimed right hand man
3. On Bama staff during Saban era
4. Recruited 14 5-stars to UGA
5. Young (35)
6. Can get a shorter-term prove it deal
We will not go huge on the next contract, IMHO. We will find an "up and comer" to prove the big deal.

I absolutely love his resume
There’s no doubt some things have been learned in 15 years under Saban and Smart
I’m totally cool with a Schumann hire

I just don't think we dropped $50MM on a buyout to go cheap on a chance hire. I'm not saying Schumann won't be a good college coach, but he'll only be hired if they thing he's their guy -- not because we can get him at a deal.

I've always liked Schumann.
With someone like him you would have to interview and hear who he would hire as his oc and how he would build out his program.

He is the one non head coach I’d be good with.

That's kind of how it's going to be. There are currently no "homerun" hires. The top coaches aren't going to leave where they're at. It's either going to be a head coach from a smaller school, or an assistant.

I can’t believe he’s only 35.
GA at Bama at 21, hired as UGA LB coach at 25, co-DC with Lanning at 29

Don't think LSU should be gambling on a DC with NO HEAD COACHING EXPERIENCE though.
In the SEC, being a HC is a totally different animal than a Coordinator.
Yall want to take that gamble?

I wouldn’t melt. He could be another Lanning type

This would be ok with me. He would not cost that much at all. We could get a good deal from him

Considering the 3 best coaches in the game right now were all hired as coordinators with no HC experience, yeah
(Lanning, Day, Smart)

Have you watched our defense this year with him at the helm solo for the first time? Lanning and Muschamp were the real DC’s.

He has an impressive resumé
But watching UGA this year that defense stinks so that is pretty concerning

I thought UGA people weren’t thrilled with him?

Unless I am mistaken, didn't Kirby Smart fire him?

I heard some pretty damning stats about Schumann's defense recently on Atlanta radio. UGA's pressure rate was like 128th nationally, and their scoring defense has dropped significantly every year since Lanning left.
His resume looks good on Wikipedia, but I would probably melt if he ended up being LSU's guy.

Well, he has been mentored by all accounts 3 of the best coaches in college football. 2 of which have the skins on the wall to prove it!! He’s hungry to make a name for himself, and be out from under the shadow of Kirby, and Saban. Why not, give him an interview, and see what he’s about, whom he wants to hire as coordinators, and go from there.
A 40-50mil deal with big incentives, sounds pretty good compared to 120+ mil deal with huge buyouts, and digging the hole deeper.
