I am old enough to remember listening to LSU games on a transistor radio. I remember all that very well. But our fanbase never likes anyone, i just said he was perfect coach for LSU, not out damn bipolar fanbase. lol.

This has been debunked. The Pres is apparently competitive AF and just wants to win.
Yeah, I think even Tate knows that the fastest way for him out the door is meddling into the hiring of the head coach.
If Scott does great, then great…Tate stayed out of it and let Scott do his job.
If Tate meddles and the new hire sucks, then the story is that Scott wasn’t allowed to do his job because of Tate, and now everyone is pissed at Tate.

Good to hear that Rummel, I heard he was making Scott use an outside consultant or something, and wanted to be involved.

Well, to be fair, I don’t know that for a fact…those are just my thoughts.
I’ve not heard or seen anything about a consulting firm, but I’d have to think Scott would be pissed if forced to do that given his experience and connections.

That would be the best news on a day like today.

The Saban hire came out of the left-field... He was not on the Tiger fan shortlist. Good surprise.

This is a joke, right? I can’t imagine anyone wanting Rich Rod over him after what he had done at LSU.
You forget what Rich Rod was doing at Weat Virginia

The recap is not completely accurate, and it downplays Mark Emmert's involvement as being little more than an outside voice of approval. Emmert was the one who explicitly told Saban "We want you to be the next head coach at LSU" at the end of their interview. Emmert was the one who told Dean "Don't negotiate; just pay him what he wants" to get the deal over the line. Mark Emmert pushed the deal through when Dean was hesitant about the financial aspects. Dean took credit because he was sitting in the AD hot seat, but Emmert made that hire happen. Dean lucked into Saban because of the direct involvement of an outstanding LSU Chancellor.

How old are you? Nick had the greatest love hate affair with this fan base of all time. He won a ship. But he also lost less than three games exactly once. He lost to UAB. And he made questionable personnel decisions. Randle over Russel? Booty over Davey? And he was 0-2 against the greatest coach of that era. And the fans let him hear it every, single day. No body appreciated nick until his third year at Bama.
Oh I think you forget the talent Les Miles inherited...
Saban...would have won 7 titles at LSU...he made Urban quit

Rich was the hot coach in 2006 at WV. I think he wanted too much money from Bama. Rich ended up going to Michigan the next year.

Pre internet days in 1999? Where do you live? Bawcomville?

It's pretty damned close. Dean was already paying DiNardo 850K a year and went into the search knowing that the price tag for a new coach was going to be 1million to 1.5 million. TAF and the board had given Dean the OK to make a deal at anywhere from 900K as far up as 1.3 million .
Emmert was there and part of the process but it was Dean who did all the negotiation and really it was Weems after speaking with Charles Cusimano who told Emmert that Sunday morning that Dean should make the deal. Even then Charles Cusimano had big influence. Plus he was the one who told me the story.

Happened with the Baseball hire. Woody wanted O'Sullivan or Tim Corbin.

You seldom get the guy who was tops on your wish list. Typically, schools like LSU and the like end up getting guys who are ready to move up. A Kirby Smart type assistant or a Petersen type who are having big success at a lower tier school like Boise State for example .
