Follow the money

Saban is earning the $1mill we are paying him as a consultant. (Reportedly)

Not to mention both are tied to Sexton.

Conversely, the rest of the crew is working for ESPN and ESPN needs the ratings of the playoffs. Short term ESPN would not want Lane to leave prior to the playoffs.

Long term I think it benefits ESPN to have Lane at LSU. Sound bites, consistency, Coach O etc.

This. I'll add that everyone else on the panel said their piece with Coach going last. Paraphrasing what he said below:

LSU [my note: yes, the word "Florida" did not come out of his mouth in any way or context as he said his piece] has won three national championships since the early 2000s and has been proven to be a place where you can win big. Lane has been overly-reliant on the portal at Ole Miss and, while he's done a great job in doing so, not having the natural advantages that come with a strong in-state talent base makes this reliance on transfers essentially unsustainable over the long-haul.

That's essentially what he said and, in doing so (and if you read between the lines a bit) said quite a lot. Lane to LSU seems imminent to me, at least.

Noticed this as well. It does irk me that this isn't mentioned more often than it is when the "three NCs in 20 or so years" topic comes up nationally. I mean, getting to the NC game, and this is particularly true for that dominant team that won the conference that year, does mean something when talking about high-level successes over the past 20 years

You do need to keep in mind just how bad that game was for LSU. It was awful. It's not a good memory.

I have never heard that

If that’s the case then he’ll have quality young of high school players heading out of state which is a shame

LSU hired Saban as a consultant to be a part of this process. So not surprising to see Nick champion LSU after shitting on us just a few weeks ago.

I’ve seen this mentioned. Has this been confirmed?

If he wins a lot they would. And quite frankly he could easily become the GOAT LSU coach, his competition for that is Miles. Saban was the best coaching talent, but Miles had the best LSU career. It's easier to surpass Miles than Meyer/Spurrier at UF. And he might get a statue built for 0 natties but just a lot of solid seasons at Ole Miss true, but Lane wants that natty.

This is the new era of cfb. Lane is ahead of the curve. Why waste roster spots on guys that dont play and probably transfer out instead of guys that are older, proven, experienced? What HS kid wants to go sit 2-3 years and then try to compete with an incoming experienced transfer? Why not go small school first, get on the field and then work up?
I don’t like it but that’s how it is these days. Every big program will eventually do this and smaller colleges will be farm teams for big colleges. Only the very elite skill players and even fewer linemen will go from HS to big colleges.

I don’t think you’ll see any confirmation on this until after a coach is named, if ever.

Comes from a source high up in TAF that I would consider reliable. I’m just some fricking guy on a message board though so you can take it with a grain of salt.

Same Saban that still goes to Alabama games and wears crimson? Why would he be motivated to help an Alabama rival?

This is one of the few fair reservations about Kiffin imo.

That said, with the GM model he doesn’t have to bust his arse, Austin and Frank can do the leg work while Kiffin tweets and shite posts which the players love, and he focuses on dialing up plays that players want to be a part of executing.

And with NIL the bigger bag usually wins anyway, and getting Lane also means locking in commitments to keep our money up there with teams serious about competing.

Bottom line is if this happens it is going to be very fun to be an LSU fan for a long time, should have happened years ago.

He was allegedly hired as a consultant for the search. Not to mention, he still has ties here and has publicly stated his biggest regret is leaving LSU.

Congrats on being literally the last person to find out that Lane Kiffin refuses to recruit high schoolers.
