Shitty is paying Mark Stoops $9m a year to sit in the middle to lower end of his division.
I don’t think this is a great hire out of the gate, but I’d need to know the terms before declaring it shitty.

I have no idea what to think on this. Someone was going to make the gamble with Chadwell, so it could pay off.

Wouldn’t be a bad hire for them after the mess that was Geoff Collins. His offense would make them competitive immediately, plus it’s technically shotgun spread so more good athletes could be enticed to coming and playing for them. Not to mention they could hire him and not break the bank doing so.

While I disagree with you and think his contract is too generous, he is literally the winningest coach in UK football history. He has taken them to seven straight bowls, which is 1/3 of their entire bowl history. He has led them to three of their ten 8+ win seasons (as of the Southern Conference days) and has a chance at a fourth this season.
In other words, he's about as good as they're gonna get.

He's kind of a bumpkin who has always had some rumors about why he wasn't getting big looks from bigger programs, and he certainly doesn't have any experience dealing with anything resembling the academic environment at GT. I know ya'll situation is hard to find a perfect fit for, so it could be fine, I just struck me as odd.
I hope whoever Tech hires finds some success.

i think this might be the worst post i may have ever seen on this board. MS is the best coach UK has ever had, results wise. there are limitation at the school that hold him back, not his coaching. he also is over the largest sector of an athletic deparment that had 150m in revenue last year. Dumbass take is a dumbass take.

honestly chadwell is an amazing hire for you from a football only standpoint. in fact he is too good for your school if being honest. problem is, im not sure how well he will be able to recruit to GT. But in the end, this is about as good as you could hope for.
if this is true then its an A+++ hire on paper. not sure it will workout..well because GT is GT. But on paper, its a grandslam

Good hire. They will never get the athletes to compete doing what everyone else is doing. They need a gimmicky scheme and Chadwell has been very successful with his.

I don’t think that Stoops is a bad coach. Quite the contrary in fact. I just don’t think he is a $9m per year coach.

I think Chadwell would be a good hire, outside of the Flebone Option, he runs the most unique offense in the country so that’s a bit of advantage GT will have. Much like they had under Paul Johnson

I’ve shared my opinion a bunch. He inherited a program that was built into a monster by Joe Moglia. It’s by far the easiest Sun Belt school to recruit to, as the facilities are on par or better than a lot of P5 programs, and it’s in a prime location.
He is a paper tiger, IMO. Very similar to Brian Harsin at Boise.
ETA: I do think I should walk back my previous statement that it’s a shitty hire for GT, though. With the recent state of GT’s football program, a hire like Chadwell will be as good as they’ll ever have.

Tech should keep Brent Key. They're 4 - 3 since he took over. He's a Tech guy and a perfect fit.

I’ve followed him for a while as he coached in the Gulf South Conference (I’m also a Valdosta State grad), and did well there. He also did well with Charleston Southern. He’s continued to do well with Coastal.
I’d rather see him go somewhere like West Virginia or Louisville than to the NATS. I’m not saying that those schools would hav interest in him; just that those are the type of places I would like to see him go.
