I disagree you play the system you are coached. maybe it takes you 3-4 years to get the players for that system, but a generational mentality argument is stupid.
So he had 3 years, not a fourth, and improved every year while implementing his system. Why did he get canned? Exactly why I said he did. Michigan has a generational issue with internal politics that are constantly fighting each other. If they wanted to hire RR, they needed to buy in. They didn't.

I am sorry Michigan before Rich was better if not as good as Rich has been anywhere else.
RR has been a fine coach everywhere he has been.

Michigan is failing because they go after hot coaches vs good coaches.
Michigan is failing because they're dysfunctional and don't have a forward direction. If they need anything at all, it's a semblance of stability.

i love rich rod. he's am amazing coach and a historical one (he has a bigger legacy on CFB than a guy like les miles does)

i don't know if he's a fit here

his arizona state school counterpart (todd graham) is a much more likely fit (and i'd imagine much more likely to leave, given his history)

That's what scares me. Why is Briles name not being mentioned? I like what he's done at Baylor.

He didn't improve anywhere near enough. 7-5 three years in isn't good enough.

And Michigan hadn't had a losing season since 1967, and has more wins that any other program in the country. So they were pretty ok before he got there.

They hired Rich Rod, who was a fit. and they they went and got Hoke who really wasn't seems better at leveraging ok seasons into better jobs than actually winning. Stability is great, Brady Hoke sucks. he would have sucked if you left him there for 15 years.

a. LSU is not in Texas

b. if you think RR would have a cultural issue with his resume (WVU was top 5 in D in 2007 iirc), briles is that issue on steroids

Wow... I haven't thought of this... It's a great idea... I love Les. But I'm a little excited at this possibility if Rich can keep Chief around.

Almost threadworthy in & of itself. Coach after coach watched what App State pulled off with a couple good players & came to Morgantown. It changed the entire landscape of CFB, and the zone-read play has even made it's way into most pro playbooks.

in 2007? a spread option team had already won a title by the (2005 UT) and UF used it a ton the next year in 2006

The SEC is won with defense unless you are Cam Newton. A defensive minded head coach or one with a proven defensive coordinator is what LSU needs - if anything unexpected happens with CLM.

You're right, that's just the moment even teams like UM gave in. Either way, his influence has been big.

Keeping your defense rested is important.

Would you prefer an offense that scores often to one that gets multiple three and outs and can't score?
