I like Tucker, not as much as some others but I can see why he has a good reputation in coaching circles. I wouldn’t be mad at all if he was the coach.

Where the frick do you get that from? Tate has already “publicly” stated that he believes it is time for a minority hire

It's not being against Mel Tucker... It's just not his turn to be at LSU. Limited results make me want to see what he's capable of over the course of multiple seasons as a HC.

I share similar feelings about Aranda, but at least Aranda is an incredible defensive coach. We need that in SEC.

I’m with you, as I referenced later in the post. He’s not my favorite. I just don’t understand why people feel like he’s for sure a terrible candidate other than the political move that they anticipated from Tate. (Which would be a terrible move if a football hire was politically motivated FWIW)

Basically I think he’s not our guy but a good coach still. But grown men are in here acting like he’s Curley Hallman or something. Lol

My point was to illustrate the difference in the team year one to year two. I’m not saying the guy is who I want. Just chill out or enlighten me.

Way to skip the part where I say he isn’t my guy. My point is chill out, he’s improving his team. He went from a losing record to a top 10 level team. That’s not easy, even if your opponents are overrated. We aren’t hiring Saban or Tom Landry, so there’s gonna be some question marks.

Can Aranda recruit. Can Napier/Fickell do it at P5. Was Rhule’s success due to down years in Big XII.

Again the point is just chill out. These candidates aren’t worth panicking about.

If someone dislikes Tucker but likes Aranda they’re an idiot. There’s absolutely nothing to justify that stance.

Trust me, I'm as chilled as could be. I come to this board for the lunacy and entertainment.

You're the one saying to relax on a guy who has very little sample sizes, and nothing at all that says LSU should hire him. Maybe you should relax if someone questions that.

You sound like the media. Everyone is gaslighting a fender bender and I come around saying chill. Your response is I need to chill? CSB

He needs a few more seasons under his belt before a promotion.

Ehhhhh

One could make the argument that Tucker has had far far worse Defenses and DC tenures at some stops than Aranda has ever had.

Here is an extensive examination of all the reasons to dislike Tucker, from an earlier post:

LINK

I'll summarize. He was a failure as an NFL DC. Ranked in bottom ten in league six years out of seven. Arguably the worst DC in Bears history. Owns several franchise records for the worst defensive performances in its 100 year existence. Fired and driven from the NFL. Mediocrity at best as a college HC. Went 5-7 at Colorado, exactly the same as his predecessor. Went 2-5 in his first year at MSU. Defensive rankings dropped at both CU and MSU when he took over. Even this year, MSU total defense ranked lower than 100th in the country- and lower than LSU's awful 2021 defense. Record this year is a total outlier. No track record of consistent, sustained success anywhere in his career.

Those are indisputable facts, and plenty of reason not to like him.

I prefer others to both, but actually I can see how some prefer Aranda.

I am more impressed by Aranda's climb and overall history over Tucker's. I have always been impressed by Aranda's history.

I remember Mel Tucker's name being thrown around a few years ago as a potential DB replacement coach. When many would fear Raymond might leave. Many were kind of meh on the idea.

Also, Aranda just won a Natty while at LSU, so I think it's fair to prefer him over a guy who did not. Had Tucker been here and done the same thing then he would get that preference.

What Aranda did after the Ole Miss game in 2019 with more healthy players was just spectacular. I am highly impressed by him. He really is one of my favorite coaches ever. I still rather a QB guru HC, but if not offensive then Aranda is by far my favorite defensive coach.
